Seems like I have had a lot of indirect kisses in my lifetime.

Mainly from my dog. But that is another story.

One time, this guy asked me if he could use my chapstick in like 7th grade and I let him have it after I said yes; because I thought about it, and I didn't want his lips to "technically be kissing me", as I described it.

I don't believe in the whole "indirect kiss" thing. I do think it shows a sign of affection, friendship and/or family. Normally you wouldn't share your meal or drink directly with just anyone.

I think in anime that it is to show a large amount of cuteness, sweetness and innocence in the girls. Which I do find very cute and enduring.

Just like when a girls skirt gets flipped and the first thing she asks of the boy "Did you see?". And, other times where something like that happens and the girl is saying "Now I can never get married". I find this type of behavior to be both sweet and cute, wishing there was really that much innocence in the real world.

I remember that this was a huge deal in high school, sharing a drink with a girl you like, or whatever. I didn't really think anything of it, but I remember one time I was eating Redvines, and I let a classmate take a bite, then I proceeded to take a bite. She was freaking out and blushing and saying "we just indirectly kissed" and I gave her the most confused look ever.

I'm not entirely sure why I shared that story, but there you go.

I consider them to be kisses with only the cons, which is you get the germs only.

It certainly isn't in America, but I have to wonder about Japan, plus the other little things that are in anime like picking the one grain of rice of the face, feeding significant other etc. I kind of imagine that it is a big deal there but not sure. Anyone else know more about Japan's view on this?

I haven't shared drinks with anyone since high school, hell all I did was "birdie" anyway or just wipe the rim.

Depending on the person offering and the food item in question, it ranges from awkwardly deny to scarf the whole thing without permission.
Lately it's been leaning toward the latter. I am hungry.

If you're a teenager and you're sharing a soda with your crush at lunch, I can understand the butterflies and why that might be exciting to a younger pseron. As an adult it's more like "Why the hell are we sharing?"

You know ... that's a good question. When I posted my response I was firmly rooted in my past. I can't think of a single drink I've shared (outside of letting my daughter have a drink of my water or some such) since adulthood.

My wife & I when we got to 5 Guys generally will share a drink. Mostly cause we're cheap. But, that's just me.

In terms of the name of the post - indirect kissing, never been a thing for me in my entire life...
