Anyone else here on crunchy roll big in wargaming?

I've picked up Dropzone Commander recently and am completely getting out of 40k because I've gotten sick of GW and their business practices.

I'm doing a winter/snow themed PHR army. Here's the (almost) finished medium dropship.

That is excellent ...

Well done!

I haven't wargamed in a long time, mainly just paint the miniatures as I have this silly little dream of building a massive diorama. Currently I'm waiting for some 300+ Robotech miniatures from Palladium.

Totally excited.

Much appreciated. These models are my first time using Vallejo paints after making the switch from GW's paint pots but I"m already loving the quality improvement.

Also holy miniatures, 300+? That's got to cost a pretty penny. Painting them will certainly keep you occupied. At least it would for me.

I've not used Vallejo paints, I had, for the longest time, been a big Citadel paints fan. Though, the last bottles I bought were crummy so I switched to Reaper Miniature's Master Series and Master Series HD paints and like them so far.

Actually ... the cost of that many miniatures isn't as crazy as you'd think, since I managed to nab some excellent packages on the Robotech Tactics Kickstarter Campaign https://www.kickstarter.com/projects/rrpgt/robotech-rpg-tacticstm (Palladium Books, the company behind the miniatures, is literally an hour from my house, so I'm all for support local folks). Stretch goals are pretty awesome; just need to patiently wait for them until they get around to shipping them, and that's okay, since I know it'll keep me quite busy. I'll be swimming in Veritech fighters, Glaug and Regult battle pods, drone ships, and oodles more ... So excited.

I don't currently play any table top games but I have gotten in to painting the miniatures. It's a lot of fun and it takes up a good chunk of my free time so I have something to do. A 28mm figure takes me like 4 hours or more so it's a lengthy hobby.

The only reason I do not play any of the games is just because I don't feel like getting involved in another hobby. The games are fun to watch, though.

I must admit, I'm a bit overloaded with my currently active hobbies. My income right now as a college student cannot fund them all :P

4-5 hours for 25mm was my standard for awhile in 40k. With dropzone commander being 10mm, I've started to do single models in multiple sittings. What I've found myself doing at this point (and seems to be working well) is putting all my day's effort into on aspect of the model (like recess lines or base coat) to guarantee quality and then waiting until the next day to expend all painting energy to do another aspect really really well. Takes a lot longer to finish one model but the quality is wonderful(at least to my standards). I recall when painting in one sitting sometimes I end up cutting corners or not being too careful just to finish the model.

Yeah I've been involved with GW models for a long time but I could never really find an army I was happy with. Now I've been sticking with a Forge World Chaos Renegades army which I can say I'm finally content with (my rationale is that you're going to have to spend silly amounts of money on a warhammer army regardless, might as well pay that extra buck if it's to make sure it's one you actually love). I don't really have any pics of it, but these are the models:

I've heard a lot of people praising Vallejo paints. Too bad my efforts at continuing to build/paint my force are hampered by often being in another country or just plain laziness.
