Hello all, just wondering how everyone was originally introduced to anime, and if they ever introduced anyone else to it?

I have a rather roundabout story I suppose

During my first GCSE year at school, me and a few friends always spent our free time in the schools Tech block (for d&t, product design, resistant materials etc.) as it was what we were into. This time was generally spent messing around, especially with the older students. This would involve things like making small projectile weapons (heheh ) and other such things. (Also remember taking the absolute piss out of one of them who put the lid of the box he was making on the wrong way round...) Would make for a decent Slice of Life plot I guess

But I digress. One such older student was a fan of comic type things, really cool guy too. (He made a comic strip and his project was a sweet interactive glove (with light and sound :D) that was sorta merchandise). The other was from Thailand, and one time he had his hard drive with him, transferring some work to the school computer... Bored, we were looking through his music (he was there don't worry!) and came across the 'Anime' music folder he had.

Not knowing what anything was we opened a random file, which turned out to be A Cruel Angel's Thesis (Evangelion OP) which we all thought was rather catchy This led to us playing it very loudly within the room, and severely confusing both the teachers and younger students as we enjoyed it!

Kinda enjoyed it so we remembered the name of the song, which I went and looked up at home. Thought 'hmm this looks interesting, and I don't feel like doing that homework right now, so why not!'
Ended up watching NGE... Which in hindsight I would imagine was not the best anime to start with given its confusingness and mental/emotional anguish... Ended up carrying on watching other shows, before discovering crunchyroll when trying to find attack on titan. Crunchyroll resulted from becoming ever more irritated with the low quality everywhere else, and a pang of guilt for not paying for much (had bought some merchandise if I remember...)

Aaaaand now we're here

It all started back when I was in junior high school when my older brother was watching anime for a high school research project. By then, I was getting pretty tired of watching cartoons with an explosion of stuff that I am don't really care about on the tube. While I was home from school one day, my brother had been watching this stuff, and it was something quite unusual, something that really took me in. Of course, I didn't realize back then that stuff like Sailor Moon and Pokemon are anime considering that they are watered down due to heavy Americanization. That said, I watched it, and was just hooked. The first anime I saw was Ranma 1/2, the first movie where I recognize the artwork from a fighting game that I had rented at one time for the SNES, and from that day on, I knew that I was going to love anime that's still going strong 15 years later. Other shows I was watching back then are Slayers, Evangelion, El Hazard, Tenchi Muyo, and Blue Seed.

I've been watching anime series/movies like Pokemon,DBZ,Castle in the Sky, and other series I can't recall the name of since before I can remember. I just never knew what they were but I liked them.

When I was 9, my neighboring friend introduced me to Bleach subs and I thought it was really cool. Afterwards, I got to using the internet to look it up and found out about this whole anime business as well as the existence of sub versions. I mainly randomly sought out shounen anime on youtube and played games until I was 13 though.

I watched Sailor moon, Pokemon and inuyasha when I was 5 with my older sibling... Not the best choice to watch inuyasha at that age, is it?

Mines a fairly short story. Once I had graduated from high school, I got boredand decided to browse netflix. Seen Bleach and was like meh..why not. I managed to finish the 108 episodes they had on there in a matter of a week or two. After that, I went online and finished the series. After I was done, I just kept fnding other shows to watch.

Started out with manga, when I was 6 I think... and my older sister was 11, she borrowed a Tokyo Mew Mew manga (OF course, the cover was pink, the color I love and still do), so I read it while she was t school, then when I saw her watching the anime, that's when I started watching it. When I was 9 I bought the manga and I still have it and I got sticker thingies For my D.S. It broke but that's a different story.

Uff! I guess the first anime (not even knowing it was japanese BTW) I ever watched was Mazinger Z , yeah... I'm kind of old.
But, the first one I watched knowing that, in fact, was a anime is Saint Seiya when I was at School about twenty years ago...

Besides watching Pokemon/Digimon when I was little, I was on Spring Break my junior year of high school, and Funi was advertising on the front page of YouTube their Code Geass episodes. It looked interesting to me, and by the end of the first episode I was hooked for life.

I had seen Pokemon and Dragon Ball Z before I found out what anime was. I found out what anime was when I was in 7th grade. Some guys were talking about Naruto and how Sasuke was cool(lol). At that time I it was on CartoonNetwork so I watched it and I found it boring. I looked for it online and watched it on Viz from the beginning and got hooked. After I finished it and didn't know what to do with my life. Then I found out about Naruto Shippuden. I watched around 80 episodes subbed on Myspace (when Myspace was cool). Then I became a high school freshman and that's where the real story begins.

Well, pokemon was definitely my start, along with Naruto. But what really got me into anime was Gintama. It's still my favorite show of all time

It was a culture thing. Anime songs were sung even in kids' games.
