I watched Robotech and Vampire Hunter D as a kid not knowing it was anime but got hooked by a friend's brother who would go to a Japanese video store in town and rent VHS tapes of Dragon Ball Z, Slam Dunk, and Yu Yu Hakusho episodes that the owner's family would record off of Japanese TV and send to him.

I saw episodes of Magic Knight Rayearth, Flame of Recca, Voltes V, and Yu Yu Hakusho on TV. Found them to be interesting to watch. Although I could only watch anime on TV. No internet back in the 90's and I wasn't as devoted to anime as I am now. Not until we got cable. Then, I found Animax. I watched anything that was on, although a few favorites were Ayashi no Ceres and Cyborg Kurochan. Still undevoted, though. It wasn't until 2006, out of boredom, I started watching Naruto and I now rack over 6 months of my life spent on anime, at least according to my Anime-Planet profile.

I never get tired of answering this question.

I watched a show called Liquid Television back in the day on Mtv and they played a short film called "The Running Man." I was entranced. I recorded on VHS and watched it over and over.

Then the Sci-Fi network played three anime films, Robot Carnival, Lensman, and Vampire Hunter D which I also recorded on VHS and watched over... and over, especially Robot Carnival.

A little while down the line, I found a very rare rental outlet that had an ENTIRE WALL of anime! I was in my very early teen (I'm 35 now) and Mom would rent movies once a week, I'd get a video, and she'd get a video, then we would watch them on our brand new 27" tube tv

I rented all of Robotech (and copied them) some Ranma, a few others. One day I decided I wanted something different, and I saw this on the shelf:

Being the innocent child, I thought to myself, THAT DEMON LOOKS HELLA COOL! And my poor mother, she didn't even look at the box... All the original ova had printed on it was ANIME 18 on it anyway, I mean, come on!

To make a long story short, we never went to that video store again, it was almost 3 years until I got to go back and rent the entire set! My fragile little mind was ruined and my mother put off anime FOREVER! If it wasn't for Dragonball and Sy-fy who knows if I would have ever seen anymore.

But now I have CR, and the story has a happy ending.

It all started 17 years ago when I saw an episode of Pokemon while I was watching my Saturday morning cartoons. Instantly hooked. From there I went to Dragon Ball Z on cartoon network, Tenchi Muyo, Outlaw Star, Yu Yu Hakusho, and I've been watching anime ever since.

I used to watch Voltron and G Force (the American version of Gatchaman) on TV when I was in elementary school. Later, in middle school and high school I had a friend into anime like DBZ, YuYu Hakusho, Vampire Hunter D, etc. and we'd borrow tapes from him. Ninja Scroll was the turn-around point, though, when I really got hooked. It was the first time I had seen really well drawn anime with lots of blood and 'adult themes'. I've been hooked ever since.

Started watching Toonami back when it first came out and Dragonball Z was aired on that station. I got tired of one episode per week so I explored more shows and hit on Naruto when it first began the trailers looked cool so I watched that for years and years and then Bleach until Naruto Shippuden was made legally stream-able on Crunchyroll back in February of 2009 I joined this site and watched so many more anime shows.

I would Speed Racer back in the day but at the time I didn't realize it was Anime. Transformers was also Anime but again, I didn't realize it.

I didn't realize it until the Sci-Fi was like "We got cartoons from across the sea.". New Cartoons called Anime! Straight from Japan.

It was a whole new world.

Watching Star Blazers... On TV in 1980 or then abouts... Then going to see a double feature flick Popeye & Galaxy Express 999 a few years later....

They had no anime on the BIG Three TV networks when I was a kid... (Hell there were only two channels in my home town for the first few years of my life...)
