If you have not watched the show, you should watch it before you post.

It's like, hey look at us, we are lolis with problems who have made a deal with the devil so our lives don't suck as much, but in fact now they suck even more. Thankfully Jesus dies for our sins, so our lives suck slightly less, but over all still far more than if we had never been dimwits and made a deal with the devil. Moral of the story is don't take candy from strangers.

So many threads for Madoka being created lately

I liked it for its story, characters, cuteness, and ability to make you not being able to trust the cuteness. It started out pretty darn cute at first then things pretty much went to hell after a couple of episodes. I know I said in another thread that I'd want Madoka Kaname as my daughter, but oh my gosh, as a mom what could I do in that situation to keep her from getting hurt and keep everyone else from getting hurt too?

+1 Internets for that wonderful summary.

Maybe it's a sign that we're going to get more Madoka related things? *hopes for one of the spin off mangas to be adapted though how many are there of kazumi and oriko?* *checks* *five volumes of kazumi* *two or three of oriko* *doesn't want the other one to be adapted cause it looks like it ships my notp*

To set the point of view I am coming from I will say I have seen the show 3x and Rebellion 1x but have not seen the first two movies.

Firstly is it a deconstruction of the magical girl genre, no. Genre deconstructions are not possible, it is merely it's own spin and execution of the magical girl type story. The fact that there are more adult elements and psychological aspects to the show merely elevate it above the candy rainbow unicorn fray of the typical offering that would fit the mold.

I do think it is one of the better animes I have watched and am hard pressed to find more than a small handful that I can 100% percent recommend to newer viewers. (assuming it was possible to find more than a small subset that hadn't already heard of it) Now, it does have its blemishes, but then no show has ever been flawless, and tbh anyone who says the shows in their top 10 are flawless needs to rewatch them with a more critical eye. But all in all it is a very solid show, on of the few in my opinion that met the expectations I had given the hype.

Watched it and I failed to see what the big deal was.

I'll try again with the movies one day.

For the most part, I liked the story. I was impressed by the way it ripped the magical girl concept to pieces, then shoved the pieces in my face. I wasn't terribly fond of the characters (other than Sayaka), though and I felt like some things could have been fleshed out in more detail.

I've seen all three movies, and in my opinion, the two recap movies told the story better than the TV series did, so I think more highly of them (even if they did cut one of my favorite scenes). I can't say I'm the biggest fan of the third movie, though. I don't dislike it, but something felt a bit off to me. I thought the plot was interesting and presented in an interesting (and sometimes frightening) way, but the whole thing feels kind of like a spin-off to me. I just didn't feel like it flowed very well from the ending of the main story, and that hindered my experience with it.

Haven't seen the movies, so I can't comment on them. The tv series is good, but not groundbreaking. The story is one of those "Faustian contract" stories, which I do like. I did like the art style, especially on the witches, mostly because of how it contrasts with the Hidemari Sketch character designs. Character wise, I didn't really get attached to anyone but it might be because the anime was only 12 episodes. My favorite part is the music. The fitting but unfitting opening, the kickass ending, and Yuki Kaijura's ost complimenting the scenes. Madoka is also one of the few series I watch but don't knowingly seek out for spoilers.
