The last few times I've gotten non-avid anime watchers to watch an anime with me have gone fairly well. I always try to figure out what they like first. An example would be one of my buddies who reads comics and likes superhero movies. I led him in the direction of Tiger & Bunny. It took a bit for him to really start getting into it but once he did, he really enjoyed it. Afterwards, we watched Mirai Nikki, Deadman Wonderland, Fate/Zero, and Casshern Sins in succession. He enjoyed the next series more than the previous. Though after Casshern Sins he hasn't watched anymore anime but I find it to be an accomplishment I managed to get him to watch those five series in a row, lol.

As for my family, Miyazaki films are always well received with them.

I always answer with: Well yeah i'm a guy with a normal healthy libido. If they ever walk in during a scene with stuff like that.

My mom usually rolls her eyes, my dad usually takes a shocked look and then says something like: Well you are my son... makes sense. Then he walks off.

" Well you are my son... makes sense. "

your dad *claps*

my bffs don't watch anime at all... a few years back I made them watch 5centimeter and they almost fell asleep >.> a year after one of them told me she watch it again and love it, she told me she watched it 3x alone cringing and crying at almost every part of it (this happened after her breakup with her long distance bf, she must have all the 'feels' back then lol)

I never actually with my parents watch anime together (they have deep emotional scarring from WWII so yeah......very hard to even try to convince them to even remotely try one together). I think the only time me and my dad tried to watch an anime was a Doreamon movie (only reason he was able to stomach it was because he didn't know that it was anime and that it wasn't spoken in Japanese rather it was in Cantonese) so it was a try.

There was one time when I was doing a college group project with my classmates, one of the members brought his laptop and started to watch some anime. I was the only one that actually paid any attention to them while the rest were doing work (BTW: I was also doing work too just so you know). One of them were just staring at the screen and was kinda interested, but the other two not so much. She (the one who kinda paid attention to the anime) said that she did wanted to go AX since her friends mentioned how fun it was so I guess it wasn't that awkward to say the least. ^~^

I can't say I've ever had any experience watching an anime with a non-anime person, let alone an awkward one, but I have told my mom about some of the more interesting things I've seen in anime, such as Otonashi's backstory from Angel Beats or the crazy symbolism in Mawaru Penguindrum. After things like that, I think she's realized that there's more to anime than she previously thought. One of these days, I might try to strap her in a chair and make her watch one of my favorites, but she's always busy, so I'm not sure if that will ever happen.

My dad chilled with me the other day while I was watching Fate/zero. He liked the premise, and the effects, but said he couldn't see himself sitting down long enough to watch it. Though he will sit through entire seasons of stuff like NCIS, JAG, etc etc. (not saying those are bad, just saying the time constraint was complaining about is kind of funny)

Sounds like my grandfather. Expect, he does watch anime. In fact, his favorite series happens to be Fate/Zero and his favorite character from the show is Iskandar. He's super excited for the Fate/Stay Night remake (already saw the original one and UBW).

He'll pretty much watch anything. Also, apparently, he has a douchebag list. For instance, he was watching RIN: Daughters of Mnemosyne and when he got to the last episode with Apos (main antagonist), he remarked "this guy is a real douchebag, isn't he?" *10-20 minutes later*. "Yep. Douchebag."

My family would probably like AoT more than I do. Wouldn't recommend it to my mom, though. Especially considering who gets eaten in the first episode.

I haven't shown them much besides Ghibli and Makoto Shinkai movies. They seemed to like the EVA movies, oddly enough. Getting them to sit through a whole series is probably hopeless, but I'm still debating whether I should terrorize them with the Madoka movies when those come out...

Well, it's hard to predict reactions. Someone recently mentioned showing AoT to their mom, who immediately became a big fan. Sounds like switching to Ouran after that scene helped, anyway.

My mom claims to be put off by violence in movies, but never seems to actually avoid it, so... I don't even know how to interpret that.

I swear, when I watch ecchi/yuri, my mom walks into my room at the best timing (And she doesn't even knock on the door. She just busts in -_-)

One thing I suggest to everyone is Angel Beats. It has little bit of everything (and hella sad at the end)
