Being a free user (and situated in America), I usually only get to participate in the really small discussion threads, so I haven't experienced this problem myself. But I can certainly see how it could be annoying to sift through a bunch of posts about the source material when you haven't read the source material and you don't really care about the source material (at least not while the anime is still ongoing). For something as popular as No Game, No Life, I don't even want to imagine how much of that could be going on. I understand what some people are saying about comparing the source to the adaptation, but I think there should be some kind of limit to that so it doesn't get out of hand.

You are not alone. There are a bunch of others. People complaining about Black Bullet and NGNL the first couple of weeks are just annoying. Let a show play out. The "pacing problem" which I never even saw as a problem is pretty much all but "fixed". Lolis, fanservice, incest. I'd be fine if they complained once the season was over and I didn't have to read the threads.

It's the same concept, hence why I brought it up. It doesn't only apply to light novels. It can also apply to visual novel anime adaptions too. Any anime that derives it's source material from somewhere else kind of is involved with the topic of this thread (Mekakucity Actors and the MVs for it).

Sorry, didn't catch that part.

But this thread did raise a good point for me - when I read the source materials for things, I'll have to keep in mind spoilers and things. I normally do, but it's a good thing to keep in mind more often.

Totally, but it doesn't make for a very good thread title :p

It can even apply to anime source material sometimes.

It's awful hearing people complain about how they cut content out of Dragonar academy for instance. Let people who only have access to the funi version read it without the sense they're missing out.

...

Actually that's a general good rule. Complaining about stuff that got left out gets people who can't or won't access the other materials (For any number of reasons) feeling that they're missing out. Nobody likes that.

This is why I don't watch Naruto in public. Cuz then random ppl come up and spoil the whole thing and think they are so cool because they know what's gonna happen

This is why I dont go to a thread of a show I dropped, no point in complaining when I lost interest.

I would never watch any anime in public. I need my dark room for that.

Yea I get that, but to be fair, strictly in Black Bullet's case I was unhappy because I knew it could have been so much better than what it was. If someone had a legit criticism of a show you can't just write them off as annoying just because you're enjoying it and they're not.

Annoying is subjective. I can find a painting annoying. Or I can find random strangers on the internet annoying. I never had any problems with "pacing". If anything, I'm glad they cut filler. It's not like they cut important explanations out or something.

I usually only talk about the source material in an anime thread is if I feel the anime didn't do a good job representing it. Like I don't compare the NGNL anime to its LN cause I'm overall satisfied by the adaptation and feel its doing a good job capturing the spirit.

Unfortunately LN and VN adaptations have a nasty habit of coming up short, which is why I'm thinking you specifically mentioned LN, cause people aren't being satisfied by them.

I'll use Index as an example. Personally I'd rate the anime for Index at a low 7(.2 or .3), the LNs on the other would be closer to a mid 8. That's going down an entire tier for me. Not to mention I feel as though I can literally answer most complaints directed at it by literally saying "Well, in the LN..."

When I see a series I like getting adapted I don't just want the series to be good on its own I also want the adaptation to be a good representation of its source material.

Its funny because I typically find myself getting more annoyed at people who insult a series without ever touching its source material and making full judgements on the series based on that, even if the adaptation is bad and the fanbase hates it. An example of this is when Steins;Gate came out people were going "Oh wow, there's a sister series to this well it must be just as HOLY WAS THAT BAD. Chaos;Head is sh*t and doesn't deserve to be tied to Steins;Gate" Chaos;Head is not perfect by any means but it was still a pretty good VN and just seeing people utterly rip into made me pretty mad cause... it didn't deserve it. By all means the anime is bad but people weren't just insulting the anime they were insulting the series as a whole and like I said it didn't deserve it.

Yea you didn't, other people obviously did. I've never read the LNs for Black Bullet but I did read the manga and what they cut out was important and the show would have been infinitely more awesome with 24 eps IMO. I'm not complaining just to hate on the show. I understand though, I feel the same way about pacing for AOT. I agree, that yea it's probably better not to complain about a show the first couple of weeks and let it play out.
