Not too serious.

Otherwise I'd be so hurt and embarrassed I wouldn't be here anymore

Depends on the game.

If its something like LoL/DOTA; I'm just dicking around because I feel like I've already mastered those game types so its purely for fun, playing competitively in those games is just depressing because people are generally bad, or just playing for fun etc.

If its a more serious game like Darkfall, I can really get sucked in and live it, playing like its life or death for real.

If its a casual game like WoW, Elderscrolls etc, I'm just playing to beat the game and be done with it. Sort of a middleground

I completely stopped playing multiplayer anything because people take it too seriously and treat it like an e-sport. It got to where I felt like I was working a job that I didn't get paid for and it wasn't fun. It's a new era, and it just isn't for me.

The only way I play any sort of multiplayer at this point is if it's what a grew up with: on an NES or SNES, with the other person sitting next to me with a controller in their hand. If someone says, "Let's get some beer and beat Contra's ass," I'm in.

A serious gamer just doesn't play games for multiplayer but for the experience I for one own many games on all platforms I play as much as 4-12 hours a day depending if I worked that day or was off that day I enjoy playing games and I'm always open to trying new and different games.

I've never really ran into annoying people as I'm one of those gamers who hardcore plays single player games. I'm the kind of gamer who lose the lore, immersion, and whatever story universe it is. I almost always buy the books from popular series, like Mass Effect I own all the books and have played through all three games about 4 times or so, testing different classes.

So I'm a more lore and RPG gamer.

On a scale of 1 to 10: over 9000. I take my gaming very seriously considering how large a part of my life it is.

Pretty much my entire life I've been playing games from the moment I wake up to the moment I sleep, except for things like school. I still occasionally do, but I'm starting to get bored of games and play them less and less. I used to easily get over 100 hours on Steam, these days it's around 5-20.

I also only play FPS / MMO/RPGS and only play PvE in mmo's and never PvP. I usually wont touch a RTS game except for a few like Starcraft and Warcraft 3. I've tried LoL and SMITE, but don't like MOBA's at all.

Pretty much the same for me from word to word but l still play around 30h/2wk in steam or battlefield 3 and Osu!
Still l feel like playing less and less games nowadays

I'm a very serious gamer. I visit game news sites every day and it tends to clog my free time. The rest of my free time is spent playing games, from MMO's to GOG.com titles, and consoles. I've been gaming for nearly 25 years (I'm 31 as of May).

I've owned an NES, an SNES, an N64, a PS1, a Dreamcast, a PS2, a Gamecube, a Wii, a PS3, a hand-me-down Xbox, an Xbox 360, and I've always played PC games since the 90's, with games such as Mechwarrior 2 Mercenaries (it came with my IBM Aptiva Desktop in '97), and also games such as Age of Empires, Age of Empires 2, Starcraft and Broodwar. I also loved and played a lot of Baldurs Gate 1, Baldurs Gate 2, and Planescape Torment. When I updated in 2000 to a Compaq presario I played Icewind Dale 2, Neverwinter Nights, and a lot of Unreal Tournament, and more MMO's past Ultima Online and expanded into the original Everquest. I got an Alienware from my personal earnings in 2004 and played Half Life 2 on that, The Chronicles of Riddick Escape From Butcher's Bay, Unreal Tournament 2k4, as well as a lot of World of Warcraft off and on for years. In fact starting with WoW most of my PC gaming up to a few years ago was solely MMO's. I've gone from WoW to Final Fantasy XI, Guild Wars, tons of free to play games, lots and lots of Rift, Star Wars The Old Republic, Guild Wars 2, The Secret World, Final Fantasy XIV A Realm Reborn (played the original XIV in beta), the ESO beta, and currently Wildstar. Many years ago I also beta tested EVE Online.

I went crazy into boardgames and card games in 2011 and started collecting those. I currently have close to 100 board game card games on my shelf (not nearly enough!). I also played Magic the Gathering back when it was only a few years old as well as the original Star Wars CCG, the original Star Trek CCG, the Middle-Earth CCG, and I yearned to get into the Battletech CCG but only bought a booster box.

Starting in early 2013, around the same time I began watching more anime again for the first time in well over ten years I started really getting into DRM-free gaming. I've been devoted to GOG.com ever since and own a good portion of their catalog (thanks to sales and patience!).

In the way of JRPG's, I began going crazy buying boxsets in 2012, old and new. I've scored MOST JRPG limited/collector box sets released in the west since then, only missing a small handful of titles (darn Tecmo Koei for not releasing box sets for the last two Atelier's!). My wife being a huge gamer and JRPG fan loves any JRPG box set. That also goes for any Japanese produced game with a box set. We just love em. I also scored a bunch of classic near-mint condition used PS2 JRPG's at a local Gamestop in early 2012, oddly enough right before they announced they were dropping used PS2 games. Good timing on my part for getting into JRPG's again!

I still have hundreds of console games sitting on my shelf, from SNES to PS3. I hope to have Vita and PS4 games on my shelf within a year as well. We also have a PSP and a DS.

That history was a bit all over the place, but it's accurate! And to reinforce how much we love gaming, I have a devoted gaming blog, I watch a lot of gamer channels on YouTube, and we constantly research gaming and how it relates to psychological growth and neuroscience. So yeah, we consider ourselves gamers

I enjoy gaming, but I wouldn't say it dominates or is the most important part of my life. Heck, it isn't even the most important of my hobbies. Watching anime and skiing would beat out gaming on a list.

When I do game, I tend to focus on one game until I complete it and then move on to the next. My preference is RPG's with the occasional racing game or platformer mixed in.

I really enjoy gaming, but that's just what they are--games. Nobody is perfect and we all sucked when we started, too, so why be nasty to people? Yeah, I've encountered people who do really stupid stuff, but I try to help them get better. If they are nasty in return or just show no capacity or willingness to learn, they get kicked. Life goes on. I'm there to have fun. People who are overly serious to the point of being nasty to people are far worse to me. I don't care what the person did, it just isn't called for.

I'm a lore hunter for MMORPGs, I could care less about that virtual pride within the game. So what if I lose a duel? Just another day, move on and live on.
Sometimes people takes gaming too seriously.
