Pretty much any soundtrack by Yuki Kajiura is easily my favorite OST. So pick a show from these, and I will say they are my faves: Noir, Madlax, El Cazador, .hack, Tsubasa Reservoir Chronicle, Sword Art Online, or Madoka Magica.

Hmm there are quite a few that rank up there. TWGOK, Kids on the Slope, Angel Beats, Cowboy Bepop, and all of When they Cry(although not enough of it got used in the anime.), to name a few.

Yeah I'll have to agree. Yuki Kajiura and Akiko Shikata are probably my two favorite composers that work on anime soundracks.

I'm thirding the vote for Yuki Kajiura. my favorite work of hers would still be Xenosaga episode 3, though.

Aria's OST is my current favorite (big surprise, eh? lol)

I don't know why, but the music that plays in the background just puts me in a trance. Pieces like Aqua, Mangetsu no Dolce, Santa Claus no Sora, Aqua Alta Hiyori - ugh, i'll stop now or i'll just end up listing everything.

But I also adore the openings. My favorite is Euphoria, but Undine and Spirale are also extremely good. The first ending, Rainbow, is also a personal favorite of mine.

EDIT - Oh, and I have to mention the insert song "Lumis Eterne", since that was the song which convinced me to start learning Esperanto.

Just the whole soundtrack is amazing. As others have stated, Yuki Kajura's works come as a close second - specifically stuff like Madoka Magica. I actually don't pay too much attention to OST's though - I only make mental notes of those which really stand out to me.

Off the top of my head: Shugo Chara and Tamayura. Yes, I have weird tastes in music, I know.

I also like Yuki Kajiura's music, though.
