Synopsis

Betrayed from within and overwhelmed by dark sorcery, the valiant armies of Pars are overrun by the warrior-fanatics of Lusitania. Escaping the destruction of his homeland, the heroic Prince Arslan begins to assemble a group of five, extraordinary allies — a priestess, an exiled warrior, a mischievous minstrel, an insightful artist and his attendant — to aid him in his fight against the Lusitanian invaders. Together, they must build an army and defeat 300,000 trained soldiers — including the mysterious Lord Silver Mask — who has also laid claim to the throne of Pars.

It's strange to look at Arslan and consistently feel like I'm seeing Edward Elric...

It might just be me but the story reminds me a lot of Suikoden 1 and 2, along with some Fire Emblem. It makes me want to go play the games again.

Its interesting to follow the manga now since you can now see differences in the artist's approach to scenes now that the Anime has overtaken the Manga. Chapter 26 covers a scene from episode 11. However, while the anime had this be the moment in which Arslan won the friendship and loyalty of both Gieve and Elam, they were both still pretty chilly towards him at the end of the manga chapter.

While it would be nice to have the party all be one happy family, I suspect that Arakawa's approach will feel more meaningful once Gieve and Elam finally come round. With the Anime they are ending a source of tension too quickly and the show has lately been feeling less interesting as a result.

Xandes/Zand is looking like a more colorful character in this version, so I'm looking forward to his fight with Daryun. He was kind of a chump in the anime.
