Is converting a YouTube video to MP3 for listening and non-distribution purposes legal?
Is it unethical?
Should we concern ourselves if music artists lose money?

It's illegal.

It's unethical because the shitty bitrates you get is akin to cochlear suicide.

Edit: The ethicality of suicide is a highly debated subject and I apologize to those I may have offended.

Probably not.

Is it unethical?
Most likely.

Should we concern ourselves if music artists lose money?
I don't personally.

In the end I just don't really care and use that as my primary source for grabbing songs. If it is hard to find even on YouTube then I just go ahead and buy it though.

it is not illegal however some may say unethical because you are not contributing to the artist. torrenting music is illegal but a swat teams not gunna bust down your door over it.

Slightly off topic but a PSA to anybody who believes that converting a Youtube video to an mp3 will result in quality degradation. As long as the source video is high quality enough then what you can do is extract the audio file from the video, resulting in a little to no quality degradation mp3 file since there isn't any converting. There is a software program that allows you to do this.

Just a little bit of advice

They're not going to share it but they will make new laws to get over on net neutrality.

Why bother? Amazon sells MP3s for less than $1 and even less per song if you buy MP3 albums.

It's pretty unethical, in my opinion.

...But I might still do it anyway. where are your precious morals now?

Nah, but really, a little unearned money wouldn't hurt; despite the mounds upon mounds of money these artists get anyway just from breathing.

it's illegal, sure.

unethical? idk, is it unethical that these musicians/artists are getting millions of dollars and refuse to give any of it to anybody but themselves? some think so.

i've always done it this way: if i happen to have the money, i buy it. if i'm broke, i get it another way. don't feel bad about it either.

Thats how I get all my songs, and I personally don't think its unethical since a lot of my songs are made by independent artists who shares it with people for free. when it isn't, and was played by some super popular band, it was probably a copyright violation for that song to be in a video format other than in vevo in the first place.

please explane to my why its unethical.

so i can youtube the song for free, but not store to hard drive for free.

so its okay if i listen to it through yourtube, but not through any other means?

its like the legal issues playing DVD on linux. decoding the CSS cypher on the dvd using linux was illegal at one time, basicl making it ilegal to watch you own dvd's.

if its free on youtube, why is converting to mp3 wrong?

Illegal yes.

Unethical I question really, I mean is it unethical for these commercial sell outs to charge their fans up the *** without even thinking of them or thanking them?

Most of my music I buy if its on itunes, if its not then youtube it is.
