Sad thing is. That is common for almost EVERY mangaka. Oda just has the bonus of having the money to pay for any health problems that do come up, where as the newcomers who work practically the same hours, do not.

This is also true.

I have no excuse other than anime and insomnia.

Stay up late watching, wake up early because MY BODY HATES ME!!!

As for myself... I try to go to sleep before 12:00 am. Usually, I wake up at 4:30-5:00 am. Usually 4:30.

No excuse for sleep deprivation either.

Yeah and the same with everybody else. At least he has something to help him if he suffers from a health problem. I had serious problem with sleeping and still do. Probably the longest I went without sleep was one to two weeks......................doing nothing.

Judging from these posts and my own assessment, mangakas' pay are clearly comparable to that of novelists. Drawn and written mediums are notoriously tied to popularity. Nonetheless, there are novelists whose pay dwarf that of mangaka. For example, Stephen King is estimated to be worth $400 million. King is essentially a seasoned diamond in the rough who works with more than one medium, though.

I bet they make less than what it costs to publish and take a minimum wage job in a studio until they become one of the select few that make too much..

And this is why there had to be an indiegogo campaign just to provide housing for animators.

Then you have novelist like J K Rowling with a net of a billion dollars. I learn/read somewhere that the only mangaka wealthier than Oda was Rumiko Takahashi.
