As the title says, has anyone else noticed the current upswing in anime using the concept of "memories" as a fuel or exchange medium of late?
I know that's only three examples, but I know there's more and I'm sure you can name them as well.

Every so often there seems to be a distinct plot device, item, or concept that just rampages through anime, scissors seemed to be a big one for the last year or two, now it's this memory thing I'm noticing. I'm curious as to why others think this might be in there, possibly fear of being forgotten by a lot of the creators as so many lives were after the 2011 earthquake disaster*?
What concepts do you have as to why this might be occuring?

*I am not saying that the victims of the Earthquake or the Quake itself have been forgotten nor should they be, but so many individuals vanished without a trace (home gone, work gone, etc) aside from a name in a database elsewhere that it might have caused some thought on the matter.

Funny, I just finished watching Hitsugi no Chaika Ep 9, where Chaika said you can use Memories as magic fuel, and I see this topic.

I think you're reading too much into it OP. Rather than deep sociological causes I'd say it's far more likely the creators are drawing on each others ideas. Kinda like the eyepatch fetish that's been running through female character designs for a while now.

Oh I know that success breeds imitation, thus the bazillon cat girls after Dominion all those years ago. However I get the feeling there's something a little deeper here...the timing doesn't line up for imitation as most of these were in production around the same time. Plus if you scratch a surface you can reveal what is beneath, so there's an underlying tale to be found if this can be tracked back to who was doing this first.

While not mentioned in source material until after 2011, Chaika started in 2010. But with how the series developed I doubt 2011 earthquake was the source of this.

In fact, for Chaika I'm sure this is something theme related. This isn't the first time this has been used. And 3 shows pretty spread out doesn't make a definite correlation. Instead look for what be more of a plot point and what might be more of a theme. Remember loss of memories is a cliche in story writing, but it becomes less cliche if it is done creatively.

As a side note: In a media so wide as Anime, it's easy to make correlations of things that aren't anything more than plot points thought up by random.

Although I'm looking forward to how this continues. It might create a theory as crazy as Yuyushiki's puppet theory or Pokemon's coma theory.

hey anything that is an alternative energy source is cool in my mind. In most anime its either spirit (ki, chi, chakra) or magic.

It's always about something internal, an internal source of energy. All powers in anime come from the idea of "extension of self".

Heck look at megaman and how his buster cannon is part of his body. There are also powers that come from "networks" or "bonds".

It's like central ideas of power from within and power of friendship/community/nakama

All they're doing is changing the area "within" it came from.

In real life it works like this
