Sometimes, I get recommended shows that are apparently fantastic and is a must watch, but some just don't interest me as much.

Has this ever happened to you?

Did you watch it and then like it or not?

What did you think of the anime if you did watch it, since it originally didn't appeal?
(Was it to your liking?)

Hmm, for me I'd say Puella Magi Madoka Magica. I'm not a big fan of magical girls shows and people recommended this as a deconstruction of the genre and told me not to worry it was not like any magical girl show before. Then I tried it and I'm also not a fan of overly dark and depressing themes, which this is also ripe with. Then still I decided to struggle through it to see what all the hype was about and found I also was turned off by the witch world animation and story. The eerily simplistic elements used were a bit too creepy for my liking and I thought the story was kind of, well, dull. I also did not care for any of the characters except the past version of Homura, so it was hard for me to watch most episodes without her in them. I think it's the best executed series I've ever watched and did not like, though my reasons for not liking it are not related to how it is executed but what it deals with and how it deals with it.

Angel Beats also did not appeal as much to me as people hyped it up to be. I was pretty disappointed with it overall considering the rave reviews and recommendations that convinced me to watch it. I thought it was good, but failed to live up to the expectations others gave me. I don't think it is a must watch show, but I do like the OP song a lot and it did have its moments to shine. Glad I watched it but I'd likely never revisit the show as it was not something that affected me like it seemed to others. I did not feel sad at any part of the show and just thought it was an interesting take on the afterlife with some teen angst, comedy, and drama.

I'm also struggling to start Bakemonogatari. I've heard such great things, but then I watched the first episode and felt nothing. It just kind of was. I had no desire to go back and watch more but buddies of mine think highly of it so I may give it another whirl sometime.

To keep it recent I was pretty hyped on The Irregular at Magic High but I can't handle it, not currently. Maybe I will try again when I can marathon it all, I stopped after episode 7. I know it's not like a super hype show and is ongoing and all but it seemed like it was gonna be pretty popular and still seems popular. I just can't get into the story nor do any of the characters appeal to me.

Sword Art Online comes to mind. I watched a couple episodes, but the premise just doesn't appeal to me, and I don't like the main character.

Attack on Titan's another one. I got about halfway through, and was enjoying it, but then I just kind of stopped and never went back to it. I wanted to like it, because I could tell it was pretty well-done, but again, the premise just isn't my kind of thing.

It's mostly a genre thing in my case. I tend to shy away from action-oriented anime where lots of people die. I'm basically a pacifist and have zero interest in anything even mildly militaristic. I don't see the appeal of characters (or extras) dying left and right (even off-camera) with no development or poignancy. It just makes me angry. If there are horror or psychological elements involved, I'll hand out free passes all day, because I love me some good old-fashioned creepy, but I find deliberate brutality abhorrent.

One Piece, Angel Beats, SOA, Suisei no Gargantia, and SnK.

It sucks that I dislike SnK but some of the characters are great like Jean, Mikasa, and Marco. Still wouldn't watch it though. ^^;;

A lot of people say The Melancholy of Haruhi Sazumiya is the greatest anime they've ever seen, but to me it just seems very random and kind of boring.

I read the manga to attack on titan first, so I guess i ruined it for myself when the anime came out. i watched the first episode and i wasn't getting any good vibes. I'm planning to wait a year or two until i forget the manga so i can continue.

I am just going to assume one piece is good because it has so many goddamn episodes, but yea, fuck that.

Ooh I hate to say but Cowboy Bebop *hides face* I liked it but I definitely wasn't into it as I hoped seeing that I enjoyed Trigun alot and thought it would be similar. Also couldn't get into Durarara, Toradora, Angel Beats (I liked it but....I don't think I care too much about school/slice of life shows)

I recently watched "Shiki". It was hard to get into and it was not as good as people said it was, but I liked it none the less. I do recommend watching it. I just recommend watching other horror shows like "Elfen Lied" more than "Shiki".
