Psycho-Pass, my favorite anime. It made me pretty much question everything about the genre because as much as I always have enjoyed anime, Psycho-Pass was something on an entirely different level in my opinion.

Also, completely different direction but free! proved to me that fanservice-heavy anime isn't only catering to the male gaze. It was nice to get a series aimed at us girls (that wasn't just typical reverse harem shit) and it had great character development and the animation was nice too!

Eyeshield 21. I actually understand football for the most part and enjoy playing football games/watching it a little bit. XD (Ya know, and not just for the butts.) It also opened me up to a new genre of anime, never thought I would like sports anime, but here I am now watching 'Kuroko's Basket', 'Haikyuu!!', and 'Slam Dunk'.

Bleach, DEFINITELY. Haha, Bleach actually made me realize my 'type' of man. Grimmjow is my FAVORITE character ever made in existence. His personality and all of the fanfic I've read of him has just made me fall in love, and if I ever meet a man like him I will be in real love as well. It set my stepping stones to characters I favor in future animes I've watched after Bleach and also people I'm attracted to. (That's really weird isn't it? Maybe I shouldn't have told you guys that..) Just to clarify, I'm not in love with a fake character, I'm in love with the personality type. Understand? Understood.

Gintama made me open up more too. I became a lot more goofy and open to the world, but it also taught me good life lessons that I believe in and go by. Like... here are some quotes (from Gintama) to clarify:

o "If you have time to think of a beautiful end, then live beautifully until the end."

o "The country? The skies? You can have them. I’m busy just protecting what’s right in front of me. I don’t know what’ll happen to me in the future, but if something has fallen at my feet, then the least I can do is pick it up."

o "When your friend is crying, cry with him.
When your friend is worried, you should worry with him.
and when your friend has an awkward bowel movement, then you must have an awkward bowel movement too, Shin-chan.
If you are a friend, you should be able to share the other’s pain, no matter what.
And Shin-chan, if your friend goes down the wrong path…
Then, you must stop your friend, even if it ruins your friendship.
That is true samurai friendship."

o "Stress makes you bald, but it’s stressful to avoid stress, so you end up stressed out anyway,
so in the end there’s nothing you can do."

o "Life is basically like a soap bubble.
It rides on the wind, flying here and there,
…And before you realize it, pop! It’s gone.
When it’s about to disappear, you think
that you could’ve flown a bit higher.
But by the time, it’s already too late."

Yeah. Gintama taught me that shiz. XD

My life is still changing so I can't really speak. But there's been some hard hitting ones like:

Bleach: Got me into anime to begin with.

The Pet Girl of Sakurasou: Sure did make me feel bad about myself. XD

Code Geass: Got me thinking more logically.

Angel Beats: Made me want to have a inner desire to kill myself to prevent killing myself.

There's more, but I think that's good enough.

Death Note, Code Geass, Mirai Nikki, and Bakuman. Mostly Death Note with Code Geass as a close second. Light and Lelouche are my role models. I guess I should also say Girls Bravo since it was the first anime that really got me started and Rosario + Vampire for being the first to inspire me to read manga.

I'd oddly enough say Pokemon - it was the first anime series I watched that I knew was anime (I had seen few series before but just thought of them as animation/cartoons) and my obsession with anime just grew and grew from there, I started reading manga as I knew there was a pokemon comic series and even today its still a show I enjoy watching

These aren't series but movies:

Whisper of the Heart: I I.D.ed so much with the protagonist. I constantly have this inner battle with me wanting to be a writer and then me completely beating myself up internally and giving up. The fact that she stuck it through to the end and the advice the old man gave her almost made me burst into tears. I want to be like her and actually try but I always find ways to undercut myself.

Perfect Blue: I love psychological things and this movie completely changed my life and introduced me to Satoshi Kon (r.i.p). It was a movie that showed the messed up side of people and how anyone can spiral out of control. It left me thinking about how everyone can break down and how vulnerable we truly are inside.

Now the series:

Shiki: Social and moral commentaries are also a favorite. I found it interesting how easily humanity can collapse in on itself when the tides are turned against us, when we actually become part of the food chain. I also found the mob mentality frightening but intriguing. It was horrifying to watch so many people turn on their own people when they were turned into vampires and how many more didn't stop for relatives or the ones not even turned yet. It left me with the impression that humans are truly awful creatures who can't see or understand that how another species treats them is usually how they've been treating that species. Sunako was always right.

Shin Sekai Yori: This series I just finished left me like Shiki did: contemplating human behavior and nature. Like Shiki, Shin Sekai Yori dealt with morality and social issues. It was multi-layered and raised a lot of questions that most people don't want to deal with. It left me realizing that no matter how much truth we find out and how much we try to go against what's established as "right," the status quo unfortunately always wins. Yakomaru may have been a sly rat but he was right in the end...

Gintama - it's not very often an anime can change my whole perspective on life. This anime really got me thinking and helped me not to freak out so much in life. Most of their themes/quotes are comforting and I can honestly say I live by them not to mention I've helped a few people who were down with those lessons. Blah blah blah inspirational shit blah blah

I belong to the Sailor Moon generation. This is the show that introduced me to anime / manga as a community, not only as a hobby.
