Is Xebec gonna go the way of Gainax/Gonzo/AIC?

They keep making shows, but I don't think any of them are doing well. Argevollen started weak, manga readers hate Tokyo ESP, and I can't imagine the audience being big enough for this show to make a profit. Someone correct me if I'm wrong though...

They just need to keep making To Love-ru and Maken-ki. At least that'll make them money.

Excuse you. This show has a big fanbase, especially the old ones but they don't use this forum (who knows why) why do you think this anime will not make them money? this site doesn't show the whole anime fanbase and if it had movies, sequels and prequels is because of something!

Also, I don't believe that only animes that "make money" should be created, if that was the case, all anime would be hentai or ecchi or about high school romance (which I hate).

The problem here is that it took a long time to come out with a second season so the fans have been quiet but this one was a big hit when it came out, at least that's what I remember.

You don't need to be all defensive. I wasn't insulting Fafner or anything. I'm happy Xebec is making the shows that they are, but the reason AIC, Gonzo, Gainax and the like are going down the pooper isn't because their shows were too good or too bad or too original. It's because they didn't make money. So I want Xebec to make money, only so that they don't share a similar fate. After they have money they can afford to take more risks and experiment.

And I can see the potential for this being popular. Gundam SEED is still a huge deal in Japan, and it's about the same age as Fafner. And I knew about the expanded franchise. But I just haven't heard of any hype from Japan myself, so I'm just worried is all.

^By the way you wrote it, I thought you meant that this show wasn't or isn't worth making just because it doesn't seem popular and you haven't even watched it....or have you? and it is one of my favorites so I got a bit defensive^^

Maybe it was overshadowed by Gundam Seed's popularity at that time so I don't see it like a good thing that they are about the same age...I actually watched this because of Gundam Seed destiny. ....I don't care if something is popular or not, I care for a good story and characters and this one, while not being super original when it comes to the story, the characters are well developed.

I feel like I already posted on this...

In any case: Yay! More Hisashi Hirai character designs. Never a bad thing.

CR freaking got this. I was beyond shocked when I heard the news( I could have sworn Funimation was gonna get it but now I can stream it in 1080p legally). It's been 11 years since the first series and 5 years since the movie sequel. I have been hoping for this for so long. This is still one of my favorite mech series, I got a ton of Gundam and NGE vibes from the first season and that is a very, very good thing.

Xebec, thank you for making another season for Fafner, it had some of the richest character development I had seen in an anime and the story was extremely engaging. It's definitely an underrated series and I'm glad it's getting into the spotlight once again!
