Idk, I hated the 1st half because Kamina was so... uh cute & paste. I mean, he had like 1 dimension and was literally a cut & paste from a main character archetype. I guess, when Kamina reveals that he was giving up and Simon was the one who pulled him through by drilling all the way through--kinda shows he's a little bit unique, BUT THAT WAS THE ONLY TIME.

And then there's the eye-rolling OPness of how the mechas were so very too strong. I think they were doing it on purpose but... my gosh. Was it supposed to be a parody or exaggeration on purpose?

But I'm coming from like watching lots of other animse before Gurren. So maybe htat's why?

The second half was far better because it actually didn't use so many archetypes or whatever. It had its own themes there. And when Simon pulls off that first battle after breaking out from prison and everyone yells "WHO THE HELL DO YOU THINK I AM?!" It really reminded me of the spirit of Fairy Tail, so I liked that a lot :D.

So yeah for me it's the second-half, esp. due to the romance there too

The first half had Kamina and Simon's epic rise into badassery.

Then again, the second one had them throw motherfucking galaxies.

Really, the entire show was a fun ride.

I loved both, but the second half was so intense and the fighting. Pure class

Liked the first half, didn't like the second. In the first half it was all fun with some good laughs, but then they tried to be more serious while dialing up the ridiculousness at the same time and it just didn't work imo.

The second half just devolved into a rollercoaster of nonsense... and it was glorious.

Damn, this got necro'd? I miss Crunchy, haven't really been able to use it except to watch RWBY since I got back to Japanistan :(

Ha.

But to answer your question, I think the first half was better. The second half was just a continuation of the anime trying to one-up itself in grandeur and epic proportions. It just tried to see how truly ridiculous and over the top it could actually get.

"Just like a strong majority of those who watched it I think it's a superb anime overall."

That alright?

That's why I think he was only ever supposed to be a character in the early portion of the show, because he was a larger-than-life inspirational figure without mitigating factors in his personality. I think there are several things that make Kamina great, but to just focus on one, I'd say that as an audience we generally feel the same way as the other members of Team Dai Gurren: When he was around he was a ridiculous, crazy guy who denied the facts that lay before him and made us think anything was possible; it's after he passed he really became a legend.

Otherwise, I thought it was totally obvious how much the show was a parody in some ways and an exaggeration in all, much like Kill la Kill. IMO, criticizing that is a bit like saying "star wars was okay but what's with all the spaceships?"

First half. The story was intriguing and felt more intimate. I felt the rush when they gained their freedom and Kamina was around to inspire us as well as Simon. I am usually one for insane action but I'm afraid I didn't really enjoy the madness of the final battle much at all.
