How do you feel about the "Featured Shows" addition?

If another thread has been posted similar to this, my apologies.

As I'm supposing everyone has noticed, Crunchyroll has implemented a new feature on the Crunchyroll homepage - "Featured Shows".

How do you feel about this addition? Do you like/dislike it? Why?

I find it an unnecessary addition. Those "featured shows" are not shows that need, nor warrant, the slightest bit of attention directed towards them due to their already large presence, they also regularly appear on the homepage and other pages on Crunchyroll as well. This just deters from the "social aspect" of Crunchyroll (which has already diminished in the years following 2008), by further hiding the forums, pushing them down the page to make room for the Featured Shows column.

Had this column featured Anime that is currently under the radar or, perhaps, severely underrated and overlooked in the past but actually a hidden gem, then perhaps I would feel differently about this addition.

Yup, would talk about it, but I actually have no idea what you're talking about...

Either my computer isn't showing it, or I'm so used to it that I never even noticed.

I thought it's always been that way...

I have no idea what you are talking about either actually....

Does nobody else see it? It's at the top of the homepage on the right hand side, underneath where your notifications button and such are located.

I'm not talking about the part of the homepage where it cycles through various anime and their recent episodes and such. This is a feature located to the right of it, but it appears only I can see it out of those who have posted on this thread.

Edit: when I view the full site on my mobile, it does not appear. However, when I'm on my PC, it appears (it only showed up a few hours ago for me)

Yeah, I see it too... All it's doing is putting shows that I already see all over the website and have no intention of watching RIGHT SMACK DAB IN THE SPOT WHERE MY DAILY DEALS IS SUPPOSED TO BE!!! I hate it... Most of the shows are shoved down my throat as it is... I got premium so they'd leave me alone, I guess that was expecting too much...

Yup, they are mixing things up a bit, so not every user will see this--at least not on every visit. (Not sure exactly how that works).

I am also sad to see the forum stuff pushed down lower on the page. These days I have the main forum page bookmarked and usually just go there, but before I became a forum regular I often looked at the threads listed on the front page to see what was happening in the forums and often clicked through to read more.

That's a thing? I guess I'm lucky it hasn't shown up, because I prefer the set up now. I would probably get acclimated to it, though.

Could you explain why random people's posts are linking to me as notifications? This post was linked to me also, and this was not the first time. >_>

Also, probably the people with Adblock Plus can't see those. That could be a reason.

This one linked to you because I used a secret trick of "quoting" you (and several others) then deleting the quotes and responding. This results in the usual notification that you get when quoted. Sorry for the confusion. I do this sometimes when I'm not really directly replying to any one person but supplying a response that I think they will be interested in based on what they posted.

(I can't swear that's what's happening every time you get a mysterious notification, but it might be.)

Well I still have not seen it yet but going off of the picture posted above...I don't think it would bother me much. It's a little bit more inconvenient but I'm not going to worry myself over one or two turns of the scroll wheel. If it is going to bother enough people though maybe they can add an option to choose whether it is there or not.

It was a bad idea to tell us. I can see how this feature can be abused by some.

If I was you, I would've just said "Mod Secret Technique: Seven Salient Strike!"

It's not so much whether it's a turn or two of the scroll wheel, as to whether or not it will result in the forums never catching the eyes of new users, or someone missing a daily deal because it's low on the page. Or, as in the case of the OP, whether having "featured shows" shoved in one's face will be seen as annoying, or useful.

But (and I do work in marketing (though not at CR) so I know a little about this in general), I'm sure they are seeing if giving users and passersby a bit more info about what shows CR has, right up front, results in more people trying (and keeping) a premium membership.

A lot of places try out things like this on their web pages to see what works best for certain purposes.
