I saw this headline on an article a while back "Is No game no life the new sword art online?" I didn't think much of it until now so for the hell of it which do you think is the better anime overall , SAO or No game no life.

Despite SAO having more episodes so far I feel no game no life has accomplished a lot more in 10 episodes then sword art did in its 20+ eps. Additionally no game no lifes characters are much better developed and arent as bland as sword arts cliche characters. Don't get me wrong sword art fanboys/fangirls I think SAO is okay I'm not trying to bash it like a lot of people would these are just my opinions.

So people/ CR Community tell me which is the better anime as a whole, who has the better protagonist, the better story/plot or is it even fair to compare these two together ?

Sharing is caring and I know everyone on this site is a caring soul

well they are 2 completely different animes, that are aiming to achieve 2 completely different things. No Game No Life, folllows closer to the Log Horizon formula, where the focus is not the developing romantic relationship between the characters, it focuses more on the adventure itself.

SAO is a good show, dont get me wrong. I enjoyed it thoroughly for what it was. However, the overall adventure of the show, seemed lack luster in comparison to the relationship between KIrito and Asuna.

No Game No Life, is also an amazing show, that i have thoroughly enjoyed to the fullest extent. I have enjoyed both the developing characters and the more or less friendly relationship between them.

When comparing two shows such as this, you must first think about... what is it, i hope to get out of this show?

If your answer to the above question is a Romance centered adventure that spans across a cyber universe where the fear of death is always imminent, then obviously , SAO would be your "best" anime overall

But, if you want to see a wonderfully crafted show, focusing on the sole Adventure of two people thrown into a world where they have the power to do things they other wise couldn't in their previous lack luster life; then you will most likely think No game no life, is the "Best show".

Its often very hard to actually come to a conclusion when comparing two shows, with very separate plots and story lines; because these shows cater to similar, yet very different crowds of people.

However, in my personal opinion. When it comes to what i PERSONALLY want in a show, i will have to go with No Game No Life. Which is a hard decision for me, since i did love the romance element of SAO. Personally my decision hinged on the animation quality. SAO looked BEAUTIFUL, but the art style was the same, stereotypical AAA anime animation. No Game No Life, went with a more unique and expressive animation style, which i actually really enjoyed!.

so No game no life will be my choice!

Both have their advantages and drawbacks, but I feel that Sword Art Online has accomplished less than what No Game No Life has accomplished in about 10 episodes.

Sword Art Online had the action-scenes beautifully done and had some great background chorus's to really give the fight scenes life. The many problems in SAO occurred later when the story took a change. The first 4-5 episodes of SAO were wonderful, with lot's of action and thriller to keep you entertained. The next 5-6 episodes really took a dive during the honeymoon scene, which bored me after seeing the immense action. Not to mention after the honeymoon arc and defeating Kayaba Akihiko, the show then focuses on a second arc called Alfheim Online.
--------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------------
In this arc the show is literally saving Asuna from a bird cage and a villain that looks about as dangerous as a giant butterfly wearing a crown. Oh, wait. Aside from that, this arc took a promising character from the beginning Asuna who was a real bad*ss into some girl who needed her boyfriend. This isn't even talking about our protagonist's problems, which far outweigh his positives. The creators seemed like they wanted Kirito to look excessively cool and they do this by needing every girl in the show to constantly need his help. I mean this takes place in a VRMMO game, where not a lot of girls play, yet Kirito somehow attracts every girl within a 10 mile radius and gets them to fall for him, thus turning them into shallow characters with no future character development. Also, at the end of the second arc of Alfheim Online, Kirito beats the game by being able to hack into the game and cheat his way to victory and creates one of the most cliche endings I have ever seen in anime.
Now it may seem that I'm only ranting on SAO, but I did enjoy the show despite these prominent flaws and there were some good sides of SAO
SAO highlights, the first few episodes, the well animated boss fights, the action background music, and the general plot and idea of being stuck in a game.

No Game No Life for myself is one of the best anime currently being simulcasted. Though there are some problems as well with NGNL, they aren't nearly as bad as SAO's. For starters the whole idea of this show instead of trying to escape the game like SAO, the main characters in this explore it and sets goals in the game for them to complete. The characters both main supporting and main characters are far more developed than those of SAO. While NGNL lacks the action thrilled scenes that SAO had, the show provided action through tension in games they play and the ultimate goal of the victors, which I myself enjoyed because of how thought worthy the show had become.
But of course there are some key problems with NGNL as well. For starters the character development and screen time for some main supporting characters have been a bit off. Let's start with Jibril, she seems to have lost all development after pledging allegiance to Sora and Shiro. The ecchi is quite heavily done in NGNL, more than I would have thought and the pacing is a bit quickly paced at times and slow in others.

Both shows have their goods and their bads. I personally enjoy No Game No Life more because it has less fundamental problems than Sword Art Online and the thoughts and ideas that are represented in NGNL really draws me in even more. While Sword Art Online was a fair attempt, it had too many problems and pacing errors that made me like the series less, but not completely hate it.

Once again, ANOTHER ridiculous choice to make. But I'm going with No Game, No Life. It's just freaking awesome Man. And it's not even finished yet! Definitely among My Top 10, as is SAO.

Apples and oranges here. They're both completely different.

SAO is my favourite anime because of it's effect on my life - NGNL is still really good though. Thing is that I couldn't stop thinking about SAO during the whole first half of the time it was on. NGNL unfortunatley didn't quite do that because Chaika took some of my attention for that day.

That's hard and I agree with AListers. They are both good animes but are different so it is hard to compare.

I chose Sword Art Online.

- Which one I can watch without stopping? NGNL
- Which one has amazing artwork? Both
- Which one has better character consistency? Sword Art Online
- Better plot? Sword Art Online
- Least predictable? Sword Art Online. Both are predictable in their outcomes.

The simplicity of the games in NGNL turns me off... I kind of want more complex games... rather than rock-paper-scissors and flip a coin (really?) -___-;;; it's like the author couldn't think of any better ideas than a coin flip? and rockpaperscissors? and shooting 2D girls with love gun...??? (What in the actual f..k?)

Likewise, the simplicity of the battle mechanics in SAO is what turns me off as well. As an MMORPG player, there is MORE to mmorpg than just slashing about, and winning by stat levels. (It's true in some MMORPG, but the ones I play require the right timing etc...)

Comparing the first 3-4 episodes of each, I would say SAO.

Go much beyond that and SAO jumps off a cliff. Compare the two as complete series and there's just no contest: SAO is terribad.

Both shows are incredibly formulaic. This isn't necessarily a bad thing--every single Bond film is the exact same formula, and yet even within just the set of Bond films, it's fairly easy to pick out the abject failures from the epic achievements. The difference is in execution.

SAO starts off absolutely brilliant and then pisses it all away as it tries to decide what kind of anime it wants to be. The story becomes utterly predictable, the characters and battles become boring, and the whole thing just falls on its face. I'd rather watch the Endless Eight.

Meanwhile, NGNL is what it is and revels in it. It's otaku-pandering at its finest and it knows it, and it does it very well. Sure, there's nothing truly groundbreaking in it, you've seen this story before a dozen times, you've seen these characters a hundred times, you can tell that each one is deliberately constructed to appeal to certain types of people, the entire thing represents everything that is wrong with the modern anime industry, but the execution is good enough that you just don't care. You go with it and you get caught up in the enthusiasm bursting from the anime, and end up loving it despite yourself.

SAO is Moonraker.
NGNL is Live and Let Die. Okay, I had to think about that one for a bit. :p

Well, this being an anime site, perhaps I should compare them to animes.

SAO is Legend of Crystania. Though, that might be a bit harsh to Crystania.
NGNL is the TTGL of otaku-pandering.
