Oh wow.

I think the worst Shoujo I have read is Hot Gimmick. I mean...Holy fuck. It is incredibly sexist, degrading, subservient, one of the worst heroins ever...Ultimate bastard boyfriend, forceful lover...You name it. >_>

I guarantee that even if the long haired pretty boy was the nicest person in the world, the girl WILL fall for Mr. Tall-Dark-Handsome Asshole.

My Shoujo senses tingle!

You're an incredibly skilled (insert vague, magical occupation), but you couldn't have possibly accomplished your dangerous task if you didn't remember your friend when you were in trouble. They didn't actually do anything, but you would've died without those feelings in your heart. It's too bad you can't do anything independently under your own motivation and power, but it doesn't matter because love conquers all (including deadly, deadly monsters).

Oh yes, and I have very good ones on my favorites with great characters and great stories. Overall I do prefer Josei/Seinen.

I never read any Josei manga but I have read Seinen manga. The only Josei anime I watch though was Paradise Kiss and a little of Nana. I believe both shows are Josei.

Didn't watch the animes, but read both Nana and Paradise Kiss. Love both, but ParaKiss is what I consider to be the masterpiece of the lot. Strangely enough, Nana is actually a Shoujo. I personally disagree however; it is far to mature and explicit both in content and characterization to be a Shoujo. It is an absolute Josei to me.

For Seinen manga, two romance titles that come to mind at the moment are Maison Ikkoku and Victorian Romance Emma. Both excellent. VRE is wonderful with its historically accurate setting, simply phenomenal artwork and well written, realistic characters placed in a difficult situation. Maison Ikkoku in my opinion is the absolute greatest romance manga ever for many reasons, but especially because of having a widow be given a second chance in love, the endearing characters, and how it also shows the struggles/pain of surviving in the college, getting a job, being independent and later just living in the adult world. It is very funny, but many times touching as well and realistic.

For Josei manga some titles that come to mind are We Were There (do not watch the anime, its horrible and only covers the first part), Honey and Clover (the anime is also very well done), Kuragehime (still ongoing), Nodame Cantabile (though the guy is an asshole) and Mars.

Let us thank the glorious Twilight Zone. A show before its time.

Spent all night reading We Were There on your suggestion, and dear lord it was fantastic. It was a weird mix of stereotypical shoujo stuff and not stereotypical shoujo stuff, but it was still great. Thanks!

I like We Were There a lot because it really deconstructs the stereotypes of Shoujo manga, and does it in a mature enough way to make it a Josei. I don't agree with the ending, yet I like how fleshed out the choices and characters were that led them to that ending. We really got to take an in-depth look at why people stick with those who don't treat them as they should no matter what, instead of that trope being played for fanservice or cliches.

I would recommend it to older viewers either in age or mentality because of the slow pacing, topics and the ambiance.

Since you liked it, I would re-recommend Mars. Again, this is a manga that deconstructs the cliches though I admit it gets soapy in some parts. Still a great read, and the art is beautiful.

Tokyo Mew Mew seems stereotypical to me. It was uncreative, I didn't like it at all.

Tokyo Mew Mew - both the manga and anime are garbage. Never got WHY people liked this.

That stupid scene where there's an abandoned kitten/puppy on the street and they feed it/adopt it/protect it from the rain.

The fact that pretty much every main male is super nice, handsome, good at sport... the whole shebang.
