Basically squashing any last minute hopes for a Sony led campaign to revive the system. This could affect developers in a negative or maybe even positive way.

Are you planning on buying a Vita? Does this decision affect your's?

For me, the biggest appeal of Vita are the niche Japanese games and indie games that the system gets a lot. The first-party games haven't been much of a factor in me wanting it. This is the opposite of Wii U, which I am interested in because of the first- and second-party games it has.

I do still like the idea of playing my PS3 games on a handheld, but I wasn't really expecting PS4 quality games to come there anyway. If I had a PS4, it still would work as a nice companion piece, like the article pointed out.

Hopefully the third party developers don't get scared of this move and stop developing for it, since I am planning on getting the system at one point or another.

And as soon as I opened that link to read the article, I'm greeted with an ad from MicroSoft. Lol.

While my personal systems of choice are the Nintendo 3DS and the Nintendo Wii U, that seems really dirty of Sony to do. I certainly wouldn't mind a Vita if I had one, especially for Ultimate Marvel Vs. Capcom 3, but the fact that Sony really doesn't seem interested in supporting it's own system kinda makes me want it even less.
I can't help but wonder though if the Nintendo 3DS may be having a role in this. According to the information I can find, Vita has sold around 8.4 million units, while the Nintendo 3DS family combined has sold about 43.2 million units. With numbers like that, maybe they figure it's not worth investing a whole lot into.

Well, who knows. Maybe they'll change their mind, or maybe I can get a Vita in the bargain bin for $20 this time next year. Lol.

Yeah, that sucks, but you know they are only doing it to drive more people to buy PS4s. And it isn't like they control developer choices, but it is probable that developers will just target the PS4 anyway: potentially more customers.

Aside from independent games, I don't like the idea that the Vita is being treated as a glorified controller. It's possible that this will change once the PS4 sales start to max out. We'll see.

i could really care less about 1st party and so called AAA games. i bought those titles for like $10-$18 ea. & theyre collecting dust for most of the time (except for Borderlands 2). i made most of my game time on japanese games. im contented on a rich list japanese 3rd party games from Atlus, Xseed, Tecmo Koei, Sega, NIS, Aksys. I already pre-ordered Senran Kagura SV, Freedom Wars & Akiba Strip <3
Indies don't even mention it (but i did enjoy Terraria though lol)
Only bummer is S-E cancelled a supposed to be Final Fantasy Type 0 game in PSV

This, so much this.

I particularly like the fact that importing games is an option.

And the Vita isn't region locked like the 3DS.

I got the system for Persona 4 Golden and I know I'm not the only one. That's a third party game. In fact the only 1st party games I've gotten were because they were free on playstation plus. They aren't even on my Vita they're sitting on a computer harddrive until I get the urge to mess around with them. Gravity rush was 1st party and kind of neat but It kept my interest for all of maybe 30 minutes.

As long as things like P4G (Anything by Atlus really and I would rather play them on my Vita instead of my 3ds) and Injustice pop up from time to time I'm happy. Sony can keep their games and maybe use their development budget on figuring out how to make realistically priced memory.

As a Vita owner, Sony's statement that they aren't focusing on first party and AAA games for it anymore didn't phase me a bit. Like others, I bought it to play all the cool niche Japanese games that get released in the West for it. Persona 4 Golden was the first game I got for the system, then Conception II, and I'll be getting the Tales of the Heart R game when it hits Vita later as well. Altus and NIS seem to be upping their support for the Vita in the West, and that makes me a very happy Vita owner.

There are tons of great indie and translated Japanese games for the Vita and there are more coming. Who needs AAA games anyway?

Regardless of Sony lack of support the vita is still a MUST HAVE for and RPG Fan the especially if you missed a lot of the 1st gen RPG's.. My only problem is I want to play crisis core but its not a digital dl and I cant seems to wrap my hand around why sony haven't released it yet for the vita owners. But ill probably end up catching a psp on ebay, and justg buy the hard copy..
