. I was wondering if anyone is writing screenplays. If so are they for anime or live action? Are you writing a a screenplay alongside a novel? I have written 3 screenplays and wished I had written the novel first or at least alongside it.

I started working on a theater adaptation of (a series which i won't talk about since the series is definitely not PG-13 ) :p. The adaptation was going to be a full replacement of names and setting from a japanese one to a Mexican one. So the language of the would be adaptation is spanish.

I stopped along the way because i was getting to far into a monologue that would be out of place according to the story. Also i don't have all that much experience with screenplay writing, so i was kind of walking on thin ice here.

Anyways JuJuRoll i will tell you series i am trying to adapt by a PM if you are interested.

Well I have written about five screenplays. Some of which were for anime others were live action. I am currently writing a screenplay alongside a Visual Novel.

Do any of you guys have any advice on getting started on your screenplays? I want to try it but I'm not sure how to go about it. How do you get ideas and whatnot?

what I say to get started is start reading screenplays. You can buy some from a bookshop or download them for free most of the time. Get your plot structure down, characters, genre and get notepad or journal and start putting it all together.
Look around the area as well and see there's any writer group or courses going on you can join.
Hope that help.

There are two books one is screenwriting for dummies and The Complete Idiot's Guide to Screenwriting which I have. Now they do not go into very great details on various genres but it was a good start for me. Also you may want to get screenwriting software which has guides to help too. The free online screen writing such as scripped.com is good but for free its a pain to write in and in my case several times if your internet goes out or slows down for whatever reason then you can lose your work. It does do autosave but that has failed me also.

Also try to write your character list out first. Age, race, gender, back stories, agendas, motives, and obstacles. You can add characters as you write your script. I tend to write the short story first then write the script.

Here are two website you can use but also keep in mind some of these will include angle shots etc but as a screenwriter trying to promote your script you will not need those, that process is done later. Also deadman gave a good suggestion by joining some writers group.

I do it for a part time living/income. I write for a local publication, mainly short stories usually in a fictionalized version of a true account. i.e. Add a small love story in when there wasn't one, or add a pesky uncle in the midst of a relationship, etc etc. Keeps it interesting.

To me, writing in general (whether a book or screenplay) is about the same thing, and that is telling a story. So I tend not to think of "Hey, I want to write a novel first or, hey, I want to write a screenplay first, or hey, let me write this...etc etc." I just imagine or think of a story I want to convey. Then what I do is I "play out" how the story goes in my head. i.e. Character went here and met xx person. Then character did this and this and got to know that person. Then character fell in love, or became friends, and then they went off and got involved with whatever scenario.

Then what I do is associate key points with how best to convey them. i.e. If a character really wants to say "I love you" to another, I find it best to show the character themselves who is really torn on how to tell the other character, visually. Tears, frustration, standing outside the other's home debating whether to go in, staring at their mobile phone hesitating to call...that comes across well in imagery descriptions. That's then when I would probably say to myself that I would turn such story into a screenplay because of the visual effects needed to accurately and strongly convey the story.

However, in all it really depends. Of course sometimes you are constrained (like in my job for instance, I can't actually go and say I want to write a screenplay for a newspaper), but if you have free choice, do what feels natural. In fact, just write the story, not in novel format or anything. The last thing I wrote was supposed to be for the column I write for but it seemed so natural and fun to turn it into a short video that my mates and I are doing just that instead on the side. Let writing take you as the writer places, don't dictate the natural flow, that's how I live by.

I've been writing for sometime. So, this year I finally buckled down and decided to do something with one, SPACEPOP.. It's been an on-going story for quite sometime. I've never taken the time to actually structure the layout but I had to do something. I guess you could say it was that overwhelming feeling like "why not?". I'm giving it a shot now...it's freaky to actually getting everything ready. It's scary because I'm putting so much into it. Here's a promo image...Hope you guys like and give me a shot!!

This is cool! I went to the facebook page and liked it! Here is mine. Now some of the art on my page is original and some are Artist donated or contracted work that was done by the artist but wasn't using it for anything. I wrote 2 screenplays for this story and developing a third. The main theme comes from many ancient texts. Yes its very violent and there are giants and monsters.
