Say you bought a recurring premium membership, it expired and you can't pay for another 3 months or something now even though you still want to pay back eventually. Here are a few questions I have:

1. How immediately does a recurring member need to pay back to stay on their membership?

2. What happens after a few months of not being able to pay back while still an anime member?

3. What happens if you watch something and then cancel your membership without paying?

Keep in mind that unless you cancel your membership before the expiration date, or ask customer service to disable automatic renewal for your account, you will be automatically charged (using the payment method you have on file) when your current membership expires.

Assuming you take one of those actions, when your premium membership expires you will simply revert to being a free member (i.e., only able to view in 360p with ads, unable to view on some devices, one week delay on simulcasts, etc.). until such time as you decide to re-subscribe.

Simply put, it isn't possible to have a premium membership without paying. If the payment method you had on file was no longer valid (e.g.., credit card was cancelled, etc.), you would simply be reverted to a free member.

I don't know what happened, my card's empty and yet my subscription's still recurring instead of reverting me back to a free member. Currently it says my membership is pending though, could that also mean anything?

You probably have to take it to these guys since it's a payment issue:

(I'm still trying to figure out why Crunchyroll hasn't made that "Contact Us" more obvious.)

So you are using a prepaid card then?

If it has been only a few days, it may be that it retries the charge a few times before giving up and reverting you to a free member.

If it has been longer, I don't have a good answer for you. Normally, if a payment gateway can't process a charge within a specific number of attempts and/or period of time, the system is set up to process the account as if it has been cancelled.

That said, I had one subscription service that I hadn't used in a while, and at one point thought, "Hasn't it been a while since I was last charged?", but didn't think more of it until far later when I knew is was past time to be charged. It was then that I discovered it had been set up under a card that had been cancelled and re-issued under another number. I was a hesitant to contact them about it since I thought they might want me to pay up for the time that had been used. I decided to just wait it out, expecting that at least it would stop when the expiration date of the original card passed. Yet, literally years later I am still subscribed without paying a dime.

I was under that impression that Crunchy couldn't take prepaid because of that reason as mentioned by a couple of support mods.

When you use a Credit Card as your payment method and we don't receive payment immediately, our system automatically retries the purchase a few times over the course of a 30 day period. Well our system tries to charge your card, the status will remain "pending" instead of "paid". If the payment is received within this period of time, your membership remains active and continues to automatically renew once your current month expires. The same thing happens when you pay through Pypal except there's only a 15 day grace period for the payment to be received. Since our system couldn't collect the funds, your status remained "pending" and eventually canceled.

Also, I'm afraid we do not accept prepaid visa or visa gift cards for a recurring subscription. You would need to purchase a non-recurring membership instead like gift memberships. If you need further assistance, please contact us.

So, if I were to pay for a 3-month plan while my current membership is pending, it goes toward the current membership instead of creating a different one, right?

You can't purchase a new subscription well your membership is pending. Either your pending charge eventually goes through or it cancels. If it cancels and you purchase a new subscription, your money will go towards that new subscription. You won't be owing for you canceled pending charge.

So would the only option at this point be to cancel my current subscription and purchase a new one altogether?
