I'm just wondering if anyone else gets the same vibe...the art style, art direction, extended dialogue...all remind me a lot of the anime series (bakemonogatari, nisemonogatari, kizumonogatari, etc.)

Not really. Completely different. 1 of them is all style and no substance, while the other is....

Check out the production information on their wikipedia pages. I promise you'll find it interesting.

Yes! Like you can tell they are different but they have the same abstract vibe. I watched Bakemonogatari and around halfway through Mekakucity Actors episode 1 I was like "woah this is similar to Bakemonogatari" and a few of my friends said the same thing. They are both just really odd, so yeah.

I believe they were both produced by SHAFT and directed by Akiyuki Shinbo. You can tell when he's involved in an anime usually by the excessive head tilts and abstract building structures. If you've seen Madoka Magica, you'll see similar characteristics as well.
