Can someone explain to me why suddenly this morning I stopped being able to watch videos at all? I had been watching Chihayafuru 2, episode 15 when the video just froze. So, I refreshed everything on my end (refreshed the page, wifi on and off) and still nothing. The videos won't even load. Just a black screen without even the episode length numbers showing up.

What the heck is going on? I'm not sure if this is a problem with CR or my end.

Have you tried a different web browser to see if it yields the same result?

Assuming that there is no difference in another browser, and that you are in a country that CR has rights to the show, it may be possible that your university has started blocking streaming video from Crunchyroll in order to reduce bandwidth usage for non-educational uses.

Same problem in other browsers.

Both Hulu and Amazon are running just fine. I don't have Netflix or Funimation accounts.

See above. Why would it just be Crunchyroll, though?

The freezing and stuttering is a widely known problem that CR doesn't seem very interested in fixing. This has been happening for months without any fix or any real acknowledgement of the issue: http://www.crunchyroll.com/forumtopic-824679/lag-freezing-stuttering-etc

To verify, have you restarted you system since this occurred?

You may also want to check if Flash has any information stored for Crunchyroll and try deleting that:

Yeah, I restarted a couple times. (Not solely for this).

And I'll check that, thanks for the link!

CR is aware that the stuttering fix has yet to be implemented. It will most likely be resolved when the web player is updated, but not for sure.

I'm currently at a university for a summer program so I'm on the university wifi, but when I use my home university's VPN things work (albeit with reduced speed).

What the heck is going on? I'm not sure if this is a problem with CR or my end.

Firstly,
admitting to using a VPN is a violation of our terms of service in regards to falsifying geolocation data. This means that by circumventing our region restrictions, we might be taken to litigation about viewing content outside of the areas we've paid to license.

Secondly, did you ever ask if your visiting university does bandwidth shaping? Most modern universities run backend hardware to filter and rate-limit connectivity for those who cause bandwidth strain; meaning that you're flagged as an offender and they might rate-limit you to death, or they have an active web filter that prohibits you from viewing video as it costs more than just standard web traffic.
