Recommend short stories and anthologies
Posted 6/23/14
Hello!

Newish here to the forums.

I've been trying to write short stories for a year and a half now and I figure that it'd be a good idea to read anthologies. So please recommend me some of the ones you've enjoyed!

Hello, and welcome!

I love short stories myself, but haven't been reading much lately so don't have anything specific to recommend at the moment.

Just so you know, we do have a special thread just for requesting recommendations, so I'm going to ask that you copy what you wrote here, and post it in that existing thread (it's stickied near the top of the Books & Comics forum):

I'm closing your thread though because individual personal "help" threads are against CR's site rules, and that includes recommendation requests.

Good luck finding something great! If I think of anything specific, I'll be sure to respond to you in that other thread. For now, I suggest looking up some of the "Best American Short Stories" anthologies published under the Mariner Books imprint of Houghton Mifflin Harcourt. There might even be a similar series not limited to "American" but I'm not sure.

Also, if you're open to short works that aren't necessarily fiction stories, their "Best Non-Required Reading" anthology series is also excellent!
