I run Chrome with AdBlockPlus, which I disable on sites that ask for it in order to help them with their revenue. It is often the least we can do for the wealth of free content that the internet provides. I have been a paid subscriber to CR since 2009, and I have been running with ABP turned off in order to help as much as I can.

In the last few weeks, these MySpace ads, which are a desperate attempt to make MySpace relevant, which pop up and stream video in the bottom right hand corner of the window, have been mostly benign... unless I was watching a video. The biggest problem is that the (x) to click them off isn't always available or responsive, and so the video at 1080 can become jumpy with the competition for bandwidth.

I understand that CR needs to sell ad space. It helps keep this site up and running, and it allows them to pick up so many titles for which I am thankful. But when the ad in question is interfering with video playback of what I come here for and what I pay for, then the ad is unacceptable.

Please, CR. Put the video-playing MySpace ads on the forums, on the front page, on the show pages, review pages, profiles, anywhere, but do not put them on an episode page where they can interfere with the stream. If you MUST put them on the episode page, make it easier to click out of the ad. Many times, the close window feature does not pop up, and the ad continues to disrupt the viewing of the episode. I want to support and use your site. All I ask is that it not interfere with my ability to view the anime that is the reason I come here and the reason why I am (and will continue to be... I'm not unsubbing ever) a paid subscriber.

Thank you.

P.S.

I already predict the trolling that is likely to come from people who think that I'm whining, entitled, hating, whatever gets trolls going these days. I support the ads, I only ask that they not interfere with the viewing experience. Troll if you must.

I've actually never been to MySpace. Every time someone would pull it up in the office I would look at it and ask "Did Google Images throw up on your screen?"

Thanks for the tip.

What ads are you talking about? I have never seen an ad pop up while streaming.

Haha, yea that is pretty much spot on. But yea most sites read your cookies, tho it could have been a legit ad. You should be able to block the ad individually, but I would just block them all. Youre a sub so they got your money, they don't need the side ads

Need? No. I just like to help out as much as I can.

I went back to the scene of the crime to get a screenshot of the ad for Sharb8, but since finishing this post, I cannot get any of the video ads to pop up.

I've moved this over to Site Support / Minor Questions, but that does sound unusual. Sometimes these kinds of things are not Crunchy putting the ads there, but some other adware or malware that came along with something else you installed.

It's not malware or adware. If it were, it would appear on other sites I visit. It is legit ads, using the MySpace video player, that MySpace has bought here.

I'd say clear chrome internet settings, and if the myspace ads persist, please take a screenshot.

Crunchyroll does not serve up video ads for Premium users during shows. A screenshot would definitely help us figure out where these are coming from, if you see them appear again. But as I said, it's part of the Premium service to not see video ads; it's an important feature of the service and we wouldn't want to disrupt that!

The ads do not come in the shows themselves. They appear in a separate video player in the bottom right corner of the browser.

Furthermore, since making this post early this morning, I have not seen one of these ads pop up on any page on the site, though I had seen several over the last few weeks. I would hope that this means that they have taken note and fixed the problem.

Also, thank you everyone who has replied for being helpful. It's a rare thing on forums.

I've checked with the Ads team. We did not run any Myspace Ads.

If this happens again, please grab some screenshots and send them to us via the Contact Us link at the bottom of the page so we can investigate further.

Thanks!
