The show will run for 2 cour (half a year)

Voice actress Chiwa Saito announced at the "Hana to Yume Anime Festival" on Sunday that the anime of Mizuho Kusanagi's shōjo manga Akatsuki no Yona (Yona of the Dawn or Yona, the girl standing in the blush of dawn) will run for half a year, or two cours.

Episode 1

The princess hasn't exactly been out and about seeing how she doesn't realize how cold it is at the mountains. Alright, that's a preview of things to come as right now, Yona is living the high life and is madly in love with Soo-Wan. Scratch that as Soo-Wan murdered the king, and Yona had to be saved by Hak. That was a pretty nice start to this show as there is another nice fantasy show this season. There were funny moments there, but this show is all about war. I'll give it another episode to see how well it stacks up against the other fantasy titles this season.

I'm not much of a shoujo fan and have a low tolerance for teenage romance/crush awkwardness, so the first part of the episode was sort of painful. Hak and his comments were the best part.

Now, with the beginning and that ending, I'm interested. I'm interested to see her become a leader and not just an airheaded girl concerned about her hair with a crush on her cousin.

Episode 1

Heh, I knew it felt off when Soo-won brushed aside his hand at Yona when she reached for him there. A beautiful episode overall with a bit of dark in the second half.

Anyways, we'll find out more soon about the story. Yona should get good development given that the show is a 2 cour.

Akatsuki no Yona is currently my AOTS. It reminds be a bit of Twelve Kingdoms, and that is a great thing.

Them orchestrations! I love the music so far, feels so traditional and fitting for the setting. Even the opening was pretty to listen to. Definitely gonna keep up with this one.

Two cours simply means that the show will run during a six month period (one cour is three months), which for this show is the fall and winter seasons. The episode count for two cour shows range somewhere from 22 (only for Noitamina shows, which this one is not) to 26.

Is it me, or is anyone else getting some strange Fushigi Yuugi-ish vibes out of this anime?

The twist at the end where Soo-won killed the king really surprised me.
I really thought Soo-won was going to be a nice guy...

It didn't surprise me at all. Though I didn't see it until towards the end of the episode. What gave him away for me was when Hak came to him and mention how something didn't feel right to him. You'll see Soo-won look surprised and then look away. Know instantly after that he was the one behind the coup.

The first portion was a bit gushy and almost unbearable. But there was enough foreshadowing in the scene where Yona met privately with Soo-Won that I wasn't totally taken by surprise. Hopefully that final scene will set the tone for the rest of the series (primarily, let's leave behind the teenage angst). Anyways, definitely worth keeping on the watchlist.

I enjoyed it, even the middle of the episode. Called everything the second I saw Soo-won so hopefully things get less predictable later on.

The only problem with this episode is the show synopsis literally told us what would happen in this episode. That being said I still enjoyed it, but I was waiting all episode for Soo-Won to kill her dad....
