Episode 2

Man, this is kind of brutal for a shoujo!

Pretty predictable, but I like it. Luckily we got 2 cours of this so we can see how the Yona grows a backbone and I look forward to the romance between her and Hak. They're just the right match, also it helps that Hak is really cool.

I can't believe no one has mentioned the epic music yet. I don't care how predictable this show is, I could listen to the OST forever.

Also I want to know more about the other characters, specifically the one with the chipmunk giant miniature space hamster (GO FOR THE EYES BOO!).

You mean Hak won't get her? He's gonna get her, OP confirms

Also ya, Blue Dragon seems pretty cool. I wonder what all the new characters are like.

Okay, seriously. What the heck is up with everyone going "it's predictable"???

You mean y'all guessed Soo-won's backstory? (Doubt it!)
You mean y'all guessed the two main characters would escape safely? (I'm impressed...not.)

Someone please give me a rundown of the events that you predicted.

More importantly, predictable is a non-critique to throw at a show. I guarantee to you that a totally unpredictable show? You wouldn't like it. You'd feel cheated. (Although some shows throw enough shock factor at the audience to get the "WTF OMG AWESOME" effect.)

All shows are "predictable" in a sense, because that's how character writing and plot writing go. They follow in logical sequences due to prior events. When they don't? That's called a plot hole or a contrived plot.

So, please stop with all this "it's predictable" nonsense. If you're bored because a plot sequence you've seen before was executed poorly or in a boring way, say so! That's totally valid! But don't criticize the show for being predictable just because it's predictable. Are you entertained despite that? Then it doesn't matter! If you aren't entertained, why are you still watching?

/end rant

P.S. This wasn't directed at anyone specifically on this forum. Both here and other places I've seen the "it's predictable" complaint and it was time for me to let loose some frustration. I hope nobody was offended!

on occasion i've used predictable, but rarely as an insult

perhaps they mean predictable as in, we knew the princess was going to go on the run with the servant (from promotional material and series descriptions) and she's going to find the 4 dragons. we know Yona is gonna toughen up and such.

but that comes with the territory of telling a story with a plethora of flash backs and flash forwards

i dunno i maintain predictable isn't really a bad thing so long as you are enjoying the ride...

It's not that being predictable is necessarily bad, but it does take away some of the flare. Like, I knew about 3 mins in the episode that Soo-won would betray Yona by killing the king, I knew the minute I saw the OP with him wearing the crown and looking all emotionless, then I knew she would make it out with Hak with no problems really. The only things I didn't see coming was the brutality and then that archer guy dying (which was kind of sad).

I also know that she's going to toughen up and find those other warriors because of the very beginning. Also I know she's going to fall in love with Hak because it's a shoujo. The beginning was pretty predictable, but it wasn't bad per se, it was just going through the motions. Now is when I'm interested because I wonder how she'll meet these other warriors and how she develops into more of a tough woman.

ok so this is my opinion, i just saw the first two episodes and the first one i was like meh so its actually a shoujo, i couldn't care less for this anime, bla bla bla , but that cliffhanger of the king being killed was far from being a shoujo so i decided to watch the next one, then the second episode was epic.... so any manga reader without spoiling could please tell me? is this going to be a great adventure anime, with deaths and fights or is it going to be a love story? either way im going to watch it, i just want to know what im preparing for

I'm ok with a show being "predictable" as long as the show is entertaining, as long as it's telling the story in a good way. Every story is predictable, otherwise they wouldn't make sense.

Good episode (that fight scene!)
That ED though. What were they thinking? So out of context after that wonderful OP and the soundtrack as a whole.

Hmm these names... so this really is an anime version of a Korean palace drama. Those are so addictive!

I'm looking forward to seeing what actually happened between the former King and his elder brother. If the King was such a pushover and his brother such an amazing warrior, why was the King able to kill his brother? Using the element of surprise?

Here's to hoping that there will be plenty of fighting and adventure! ...And that Yona will hurry up and get stronger.
