Huhu, talk about a toxic community saying I have ulterior motives. This was merely for fun just gathering information and for others to see, but hey if you want a darkish life full of insecurity, then fine by me

It's funny people mention the 'girls taking advantage' thing

I recently had a situation in the guild I am an officer for where a 17 year old girl was manipulating guys into giving her gold and items, and pretending to be their girlfriend, despite already having a boyfriend and living independently with him (at the age of 17).
Unconfirmed but we'd had reports she was also sending nudes and doing nude cam chats via Skype.
These guys were both older than her (Even older than me and I am 20) and some were younger than her.
From one guy alone she racked up a total of close to 500g (The game in question is Guild Wars 2) which is a lot of money.
She even had a little 'gang' of seduced men and when I confronted her about it she and her gang started bullying the guy that they thought had reported her (Bear in mind it wasn't the guy and they went off an assumption)

Now I don't think guys play as girls for this reason but it was just interesting, something like this had never occurred before for me. I had joked that I was going to start playing Female characters to the other officers in a meeting. Personally I only play guy characters, I feel it's weird to play Female characters but I don't begrudge guys that do that, other than a light ribbing of course :D
For me I want to roleplay as the character not in a sense of actual roleplaying in chat etc but I want to imagine myself as a character. It's hard for me to emphatically go into the mind of a Female because I am not one.
I also like armour to be badass and cool looking rather than sultry. When guys say "Female armour looks better" what they really mean is it is degrading, sexist and very revealing.

It's not toxic, it was just strongly implied or said out right in your post.
There is really no reason to be annoyed by guys playing female characters, unless you are easily swayed by women or the possibility there could be a woman controlling the character.
Why should a female character be able to get a guys to hand over loot more so than another male, it's because the guy thinks if he is nice to her, he might get something in return more than a thank you or a friend online, hence the ulterior motive or at least not be clear about your intentions when handing over an item or gold.

It's a fantasy on the internet, anyone could behind a character in a multiplayer game. So if the above isn't true then I'd have to say they are extremely naive or gullible. "A fool and his money are soon parted" - Thomas Tusser

Also, how little self respect does one have to have to allow themselves to be walked over like a door mat cause someone with a female avatar gives them a little attention? Positive attention from women is nice even desirable, but one doesn't have to become the afore mentioned door mat to get it.

It hasn't happened to me yet but I can see that happening and although i respect their choice, but some of the comments I've seen was that, guys can't stand looking at male character's figure the whole time?
That's seriously ... I can't even fathom to say it

And now, i feel so sorry for the female gamers nowadays because most gamers think that female characters are G.I.R.L. (Guy in real life) so basically they barely get any respect unless they somehow get to know people.

At least have the courage to play as your own gender once in awhile, the dream to make a male paladin to protect other players.

Yeah. That happened to me until I told the guy my name was Eliza. And then he became a big softy. Woah. Such a shocker.
Like before the guy gamer was treating me like trash and not wanting to help me with my quests and stuff?
But then after I introduced myself (like he was polite but he was being awfully cold as well?) and I was like "I'm Eliza. Who are you?" And he just goes "Oh? You're a girl. I thought you were G.I.R.L " LMFAO.

Primarily, I would have to say that it's part of the setup that is always the most exciting part of creation. Regardless of whether I choose male or female, or more options if available, it's very relaxing to create a character on a template and decide their story. Now, this may have little to no impact once you are actually in the game, as the game's own story will tend to put your own dabbling on the backburner, but it's still very fun before you actually get into the game.

So, mostly for the roleplay. Aside from that, the only other reasons I can think of are taking the other option just because it's available, because why not, or because I want to create an oversexed goddess to look at and put clothes/gear on.

Just be asshole to everybody, problem solved!

I really find it sad when there's people like that who are willing to do stuff like that if somebody is just the different sex. I mean, don't they get bossed around by women enough irl?

I personally play both but mostly females as in most games they have more and imo better customization. The important factor for me is for my character to look good; this usually meaning things like cool, menacing, cute, evil etc.

If someone mistakes me a female ingame, I usually just play along and see what happens. If some random dude that I'll never see again gives me freebies for being a moron, then sure, why the hell not.

I play female character because well honestly they just look better and the usual " i rather see female ass " argument.

Through playing as a female character do come with it's annoyances. I had about 4 different awkward situation with people from my guilds because they kept thinking i am a real girl and hit on me even through i always say that i am guy and talk on raid chat / mumble / whatever chat service ( if there is one ) and occasional guys trying to flirt in dungeon finder -.-
