I'm a male feminist, i think everything woman is better, Why?
Well it's true.

Men suck, Women rule!
Why WOULDN'T i want to be a female?
(I do not mean in real life >.> )

Secondly i feel like playing a female lets me roleplay my character more, give her a bit of story, personality, can have more fun with her looks than... A typical big muscled guy with short hair.

Women characters usually have more customization options so I play as them.

i just got into the habit of it during world of warcraft since other than undead most male models and animations looked extremely awkward
and now of course i'm playing tera which basically revolves around playing female characters

In some games the female characters are given more love from the modeling/art department, and generally are higher quality than males, I don't always play females in games, but i can see why people do. In an RPG where you can do whatever you want, and be whoever you want, why would you want to be yourself?

To me roleplaying means taking on the identity, motivations, and decision making of someone who is not at all like me. But some people want to live through their characters and imagine themselves in story. And then some don't care at all about all that and just want to hack and slash or pvp. This division in style goes all the way back to the earliest pnp RPGs.

If you're someone who likes thinking from other people's perspectives, it's easy to understand why someone else will have a different approach to a game than yourself. However, I find that people who like living through their characters instead of playing a role often have trouble understanding why someone else would want to play as someone totally unlike themselves.

I am actually grateful that there are a bunch of guys playing female characters. I also find myself assuming they're G.I.R.L.s and thus am more comfortable when they assume I'm one too. I don't worry about bein' hit on or anything cuz most of the time --- the other players just don't believe me..

I play as a female character because of Eye candy, I get kind of tired looking at one gender so I switch on and off. I never really scammed anyone though. My male characters I make them look badass.

This is your problem, not anyone else's. You will grow up some day, Capio, and find out how little this matters in the grand scheme of things and just how creepy you come off in these games to the people who are actually girls just trying to enjoy their game.

First off, AGREED.

But to go on, the OP is kinda confusing

Is the forum starter mad because someone is falsely representing themselves via avatar OR because they are only doing it to scam people out of fake money?

Either way it doesn't really seem to be something to get indignant about. It's a videogame and on the internet, I don't know what could be more veiled. Moreover, there are so many layers of gender and sexual fluidity that make up our world, not to mention the basic concept of fantasy and RPing, that it is way too hard to just "box" someone in as a man trying to scam other men. In fact, that whole view is kind of offensive to a lot of people who play female characters, like they owe you some kind of explanation. (Hint: They don't!)

Also, if you got scammed. Sorry. But learn your lesson now. NEVER TRUST ANYONE ON THE INTERNET.

I'm glad guys play girls, because if they didn't.... No one believes I'm a girl when I correct them, either, which is really stupid. I mean... how can you argue that and why even bother? It is so stupid and I've had people get really angry over it, too. I don't bother correcting people, anymore, and just leave it for people to find out during voice chat.

If there's a choice between genders in the game I'm playing, I'll pick males if they're bishies--like--super cute bishies and also if it's the only way I can romance a girl within the game.

As for my friends, they prefer to stare at a chick's toosh and some of them like playing dress up. *shrugs*

Because some of us have a little girl inside that longs to play dress up? That's a pretty inflammatory way to put it, but I suppose it's as good an explanation as any other.

In story-driven games it's out of a desire to explore different characters and role play. For MMOs and other multiplayer games where stories and characters are somewhat irrelevant... I don't know, I just started doing it one day and never stopped. To be fair, I DO play as men in such games sometimes, it's just that I prefer female avatars. Most people assume you're a guy even if you have a female avatar, so it really doesn't make a difference.

Female characters are cool. I always chose Nina or Julia in Tekken 3 when i was younger. I even buy girl avatars on PSN because they are Kawaii as F&%k! lol But what i dont do is pretend to be a girl online.

Because why not?

The potential problems are obvious when you have people playing as the opposite gender for some nefarious purpose, but of the time it's just a simple reason like 'because she looked cool' or 'because I felt like it'. Does there really need to be any more justification than that? At the end of the day, none of the boy bits and girl bits on make believe characters work anyway, so I don't see why playing as a particular one of them is a big deal.

I understand that playing as your own gender is considered the default, but is there actually a good reason for that? It's just as weird to me that people expect me to play as a guy as it is to some people here that I sometimes don't. Playing as a girl shouldn't be outside of the comfort zone of anyone who grew up playing Tomb Raider.

Well if I have to make a guess it's because they like looking at the female avatars (or they like the clothing options) that's probably the main reason why. Some people just like to take advantage of other male players for free stuff. If it makes you mad than don't give out free stuff or just expect that the female character you are talking to might be a male. The third reason is probably because it's funny or they are trolling. The fourth reason could be that the guy identifies himself as a female.
