No.

You should take the side of what you think is right. If your family/friend is wrong, you should actually feel at least a little like setting them straight. If you keep covering for them and taking sides, you get drawn in and, before you know it, their problems and enemies become yours and you can no longer escape.

It's good to support your family/friends but you should do so with a measure of understanding, not follow them out of honor or something. Give them the benefit of the doubt but don't let yourself be used.

Nope, you don't always have to take your family's side, stick with your ideals, logic, belief etc.

The only time, I'd say you should is if you're not really hurting anyone by just agreeing with them. In the story you just mentioned, your mother was making baseless assumptions about someone and it was causing your mother and this other person to fall out so I think, in this situation, it's better to say what you really feel to give her proper advice that will work.

Hey gurl, sometimes all people need is someone to listen to their problems and whine. But in your case, you're straightforward and outspoken. It is not wrong to guide a person who's close to you with rational thinking but you should also consider their feelings.

Personally I would be truthful. However if she's just wanting someone to listen then why go the extra mile and stress about it? Ultimately do what makes you feel comfortable.

Maybe her suspicions are baseless, but the fact that she has them may be telling her something.
