If I ever went back to school, that'd be the reason. I've heard so many awful dubs in anime and video games, it seems like a field more people need to take seriously. Anyways, it's the best possible job, because you could work on both anime AND video games. Literally the two greatest things in the world! Good luck!

I actually know a few aspiring voice actors and learning how to do so back at home.
Going to a good school is a great way to meet people and debut, but chances are still very, very slim.
Just know the risks and have a back-up.

I'm no voice actor, but I'm a professional musician and I'm sure that my experience in the field of the entertainment industry still apply...somewhat.

Best of luck to you!

Currently in college and have no idea what I want to major in. Just getting core requirements out of the way. But this seems like a possibility. I want a job in the art field and this seems like it would be fun.

Hi, acting is great in any case! But can you tell what exactly / or approximately(: / you see your future work to be about? I mean, recording voice-over for what kind of programs?

Im a theatre actor and do voice acting here and there. (still trying to pursue it). My honest advice would be, don't put all your faith in getting a job in voice acting.

Its an extremely competitive market, and especially if your trying to voice act in anime. As you can see, most english Dub actors get torn apart by unintelligent fans of the show who know nothing about voice acting and who hate dubs to begin with. they only seek to bash a voice actor for trying his best.

English dub acting is EXTREMELY hard, and requires alot of effort. Most anime's are going at the speed it takes for the japanese lines to be said, which puts the english voice actors under alot of time constraint on what they can say and how they can say it. Most of your jobs and contracts will depend on fan reaction to your voice talent.

I would also warn you that getting into voice acting in japan is extremely hard as well. Japan is a wonderful country but its extremely competitive, and you will not have alot of work unless you are completely fluent in japanese. No company is going to pay a foreigner a large sum of money to say one line in english "i like to eat cake", when they can get a currently hired japanese native voice actor to say that same line for no extra charge.

There are very few english voice actors used in japanese animation in the original language. There being a few exceptions such as Squid girl, where Cindy has an english voice actor for her english lines.

If you do pursue it in japan, i can guarantee you it will be an extremely hard path, that you will need to absolutely dedicate yourself to

I am not trying to discourage you, im just trying to impart some advice and knowledge that i have learnt through my own personal experiences.

If you put your mind to it, and put in all of your effort, anything is possible. But make sure you always have a back up plan.

I myself am still hoping to be able to someday get a job for a company like Funimation, but i also have a back up plan of getting educated in other areas.

Good luck!

I'm looking to record voice over for animation, both digital and otherwise. As well as recording voice over for video games.

That's a solid advise. Use the "moe moe" voice to seduce adolescent teens.

First I would like to thank you for everything you said. Those are all very good points that I'm glad you stated. In regards to the point you made about not throwing all my eggs in one basket, You are absolutely right thankfully I will be attending the Academy of Art University in San Francisco which has a very encompassing acting program. So while I am striving to become a voice actor I will be acquiring a large rang of skills in acting over the course of my education.

Once again I would like to thank you for giving a very detailed response to my question.
