Cardboard VR

For the rest of the week Google will host their yearly Google I/O event, there was something on their I/O that I find kinda funny/entertaining and that's cardboard VR. We all know that Oculus/Facebook and Sony is working on VR headsets, but google decided to make a Cardboard VR headset that you can make yourself with a bit of cardboard and a smartphone.

https://developers.google.com/cardboard/

If you want to buy a finished Cardboard VR headset that's just to out thogheter then go here. http://www.dodocase.com/products/google-cardboard-vr-goggle-toolkit

So, what do you think about all of this?

To tell the truth, it kinda looks like something made by Ikea... Oh wait... Didn't they make a digital paper camera?

Yes they did... (-_-)

It's kind of cool, I guess.

I think I'm going to wait for a... proper VR set... aka... Project Morpheus.

LOL, that picture... If I were you I wouldn't say Project Morpheus is a proper VR headset (I'm not hating) 'cause Sony themselves have admitted that they don't know what parts they're gonna use in it, meaning that there's no information about how much it's going to cost. I would like to say that Morpheus is a proper VR headset, but I just can't when there's no information on what price target they're focusing on.

Price is undecided, and the rumors about it are just rumors. Since the final product isn’t yet defined, Sony doesn’t even know the cost of the tech involved yet. There are still a lot of elements to define and improve in the hardware, and only after that Sony will be able to determine what’s the production cost and as a consequence the final price for the user. - Shuhei Yoshida http://www.dualshockers.com/2014/04/17/sonys-shuhei-yoshida-talks-about-balance-between-aaa-and-indies-on-ps4-morpheus-its-price-and-himself/

I don't know if it was used in gameplay, but the 3D theater mode split the screen into two identicle images and the 'Solid Eye' just made it so you saw one image with each eye, which gave a headache inducing facsimile of 3D. I bet it would be hard to play the real gme with that box shoved up against your face...

Am I the only one who thought a "cardboard VR headset" was going to be a box cut to resemble the Oculus Rift with eye holes, non-prescription glass lenses in said eye holes, and nothing else?

I saw something like this in the Hood once.

I saw other things too, but I'll leave it at this.

That lens pack on Amazon when it was in stock was over $200.

I'm wondering what the lens is like in the dodocase kit since its listed price is currently $20 (and includes stuff like the lens and magnet).
