Attack on Titan part 1 is on sale @ Amazon for 24.99 for the past few days and I'm grateful for that but anime from Aniplex of America like Monogatari Series is listed at 185$ on their website.

WAT.

Is there a reason Aniplex has all their licensed anime for retarded amounts of money? SAO and Oreimo as well. Oreshura was listed 85$ on Amazon for a DVD!

I know most of these are limited editions but why can't I buy standard editions?

Cause that's just how AoA does business. For a small handful of series they do standard editions, like SAO, Madoka Magica, and Kill La Kill. Though even those standard sets are more expensive than a typical standard version from Funimation or Sentai. But most of what they do is go for the hardcore collector with expensive CE sets. Luckily a very large majority of AoA's catalog is available for free streaming from multiple sources.

Also Oreshura is $59.98 on Rightstuf.

KATANAGATARI AT 80 FOR 6 EPISODES MAKES ME SOOO MAD!

Or when I saw Magi season 1 for 82 at the local Best Buy....

AoA overprices their sets and provides inferior quality dubs, going the lazy localization route to dubbing. They reverse name orders and provide amateur voice actors with jobs on major roles. Madoka Magika had quite the horrible dub.

Not so bad you forgive it 90s dub, I'm talking so lazy you know every other dubbing studio would do better bad.

They spend little effort in dubs because they KNOW the dubs have fans. They have a lot of heavy hitting titles from Madoka, Kill la Kill, SAO, Magi, Guilty Crown.

The quality of their licensed shows provides buyers for them. The cost of their products means only those hard core buyers will buy it. So in the end they cut costs from the English Dub, knowing the hardcore will probably only watch Sub's regardless.

Ergo, you have an inferior product at an inflated price with a guaranteed demand due to the superior based product.

I'm not saying they don't have reasons, I'm saying they are cutting costs from the Dubs, and that is a bad thing for the overall product.

SAO's dub was perfectly fine and AoA does not have Guilty Crown, funimation does. Can't say anything about their other dubs though as the most I've heard of them is just trailers, which you can't fully judge a series dub on.

It's how they protect their bottom line in an industry filled with the rotting cadavers of dead companies. Economically it makes sense and presumably it's working for them, but it probably means I'll never own Kara no Kyoukai which sucks.

I've heard their dubs are getting better but I don't actually know firsthand.

I've never bought anything from AoA (whether I will in the future or not, who knows), but while their price range is ahead of what I'm used to and comfortable with, I try to have in mind that I might as well be comfortable with what I have available for me in my country at CR. Now, saying that is easier said than done of course, especially when you're me and have been dying to watch R.O.D-The TV and OVA for quite a while now, and any offer I can find for the Blu-Ray box is at least 3 times it original retail price since it's sold out (and it is pretty darn pricey enough for a show this old), while it's currently unavailable for me at CR (and not dubbed sadly) too. I've said this several times before, but I just wish their releases didn't sell out so quick (thankfully not as often as of recent releases), and that they can strike up some good deal to CR for making more of their shows and movies (cause I know darn well I'm not paying $80 for a movie I can't legally stream anywhere) available, especially for those in Latin America. They likely have their reasons, copyright issues, licensor decisions, etc, and hopefully they'll get sorted out this'll become a reality sooner.

But oh well, we get what we get. In the meantime, I'm very thankful for the shows we got available to us in the meantime anyway. If there's any release I'm considering to buy, it'd probably be Mekakucity Actors.

Btw, you guys say that their business model is what keeps them in their game, but why aren't companies like Funimation, Sentai, or Nozomi Entertain releasing episode singles as they used to often? I get it may word for hardcore collectors and AoA, but why not these guys? Especially with the anime industry in decline comapred to last decade, supposedly.

Something about them using Japanese price points, since AoA is an affiliate of the original. I mean, I hear anime is expensive over in Japan.

They are starting to learn though, with Kill la Kill and their July movie release all have regular editions if you just want the show without all the fluff. Still Overpriced though, compared to Funimation and Sentai.
