I've looked all over for a thread for this game (or series) and am positively shocked not to find one anywhere on this site. Maybe I'm not looking in the right place?

Anyway, if you've been living under a rock for the last couple of years (i.e. ignoring people who go to Something Awful or play PSP or Vita games) and haven't heard about Danganronpa, then here is a brief description from Wikipedia:

The series revolves around the elite high school, Hope's Peak Academy (希望ヶ峰学園 Kibōgamine Gakuen), which, every year, selects several "Ultimate" students (超高校級 chō-kōkō-kyū, lit. Super High School Level), talented high school students who are in the top of their field, along with one average "Ultimate Lucky Student" who is chosen by lottery.

In Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc, Makoto Naegi, an average student selected to join Hope's Peak Academy, arrives at the school only to lose consciousness and later find himself trapped inside the school, along with fourteen other students. There, a sadistic remote-controlled teddy bear by the name of Monokuma announces that the students will be forced to live in the school forever, offering only one way to graduate: murder another student and get away with it. When a crime scene is discovered, a "class trial" (学級裁判 gakyū saiban), in which the remaining students must discuss amongst themselves who the murderer is. If they can successfully figure who murdered the victim, the culprit alone will be executed. However, if they guess incorrectly, the culprit will be able to leave the school and everyone else will be executed.

It's a lot of fun. It's pretty much what you'd get if you mixed Ace Attorney with Clue and Battle Royale. The first one came out on Vita in the States earlier this year and its sequel is coming out September 2nd. There is an anime series based on the first game (that I've not watched) and a few other auxiliary releases on PSP.

Here is the original Japanese trailer for the first game on PSP: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=a75CLjuz56Q

And here is the English language trailer for the NIS America release on Vita: http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=9vI_sxaRqyE

Anyone else play this game? Planning on picking up the sequel? Already played both on PSP or emulator? What do you think of the series?

I've watched the Anime which was different and pretty amusing. The game looks interesting and I've been thinking of getting it on the Vita. I got interested in it when they made Monokuma a DLC boss in Conception 2. I think that I'll wait for a sale though. I swear every time I buy something from the Playstation store it goes on sale a week later. It was funny the first time not so much the fifth.

I'm surprised they don't have the Anime on Crunchyroll. I guess I watched it on Hulu.

I'm actually playing both Danganronpa and Conception II (So much grinding) right now so my Vita is always being used. Really recommend Danganronpa though, anyone who has a Vita and is looking for new games should definitely pick it up. The PSP version is good too but to play it in english takes a little bit of work.

I have someone sending me a copy of Persona 4 Golden, which will be my first Persona game, and I think I'm gonna give Virtue's Last Reward another go (got it on PlayStation Plus last year and have done nothing with it). My Vita has seen little use at all until very recently, so I'm gonna keep this train rolling and see where it takes me.

OMG P4G IS GREAT! I love the persona series so I obviously loved this one, it is definitely a must have for anyone into jrpgs and has a vita. I actually just beat P4G for the 5th time (I always end up playing games I like toomay times) but it was great every time. I wish I would have got Virtue's Last Reward when it was free with plus, I saw it I just didn't have interest in it at the time but once it was gone I looked into it and was mad at myself for not download it.

Played the first game on PSP. It was great. Too bad the anime wasn't that good. Skipping the Vita version of the first and planning to get the second instead.

Hmmm? I may check it out, sooner or later. Don't have it right now, but whatever! I might as well get it anyway.

I had to fight my way though a crowd of Lightning Returns fans to get a copy on release day. It's one of the best visual novels I've ever played and is a great reason to buy a Vita. I absolutely can't wait for Danganronpa 2 in a few weeks.

Danganronpa: Trigger Happy Havoc was such a pleasant surprise, I wasn't sure about the game but I loved it, currently taking a break from 2 but I need to get back to it.

I saw Virtue's Last Reward mentioned, I picked it up for free with PS+ but haven't touched it, is it a decent game?

Enjoyed both the original and the sequel. (And Conception II, also a Spike Chunsoft title, but that is a separate topic.) I prefer the cast of the sequel, but the original is a classic. ... On that note, I do not recommend the anime. There is so much that happens in the game that the anime cannot cover due to time constraints.

Loved the first game, and am approaching the end of the second.

Absolutely adore both games, but agree with the above, the cast of the second I prefer...

Virtue's last reward is brilliant. Go play it! Quite similar to danganronpa, but not a school and with less focus on direct killing... It's absolutely brilliant in my opinion!

(and for free too? Lucky ) Even so, it's been out for a while so isn't too expensive any more haha
