I don't think I could ever talk enough about this series. I've so much love for this series. I hope to get a tattoo one day of it. I was thinking of that symbol we see in Kaiki's eye the first time Araragi meets him while leaving Kanbaru.

My favorite character is by far, Shinobu as I even have a pvc statue of her holding a box of donuts. My second favorite is Ononoki, we see very little of her but I adore her blank personality. My favorite scene with Ononoki is when she steals a kiss from Araragi, and then states he just cheated. My favorite scene with Shinobu is any scene with Shinobu in it. There is a quick shot of her laying on a couch in a room that seems to be in Ararararargi's (whoopz, I stuttered) shadow and the idea of that just cracks me up. She looked adorable on it too.

The series had me hooked from episode one, it was unlike any anime I had ever watched before. So much reading but it was so powerful. I love how you are thrown inner thoughts of the character during the conversations as if you are simultaneously inside the character's heads AND sitting in on a conversation.

I'm was already hooked on this series but when Araragi and Hachikuji spoke of how the word "courage" changes a sentence it just blew my mind. Another great moment was the awkward tooth brush scene that even people that don't know of this anime or series know about.

It's funny, I first heard about this anime during an Otaku Jeopardy panel at phoenix comic con. Like I said, I could talk endlessly about this series.

P.S. I always thought it would be funny to see Kaiki and Ononoki work together on a case.

I discovered the series through the anime but then went ahead and read the novels in Japanese. I love them so much... bar none it is my favorite anime and novel series. I have every novel and Bluray.

If you want to be spoiled on whether people will be seen again, seen together, just ask... and ye shall be spoiled I have read up to the end of the most recent novel, the 3rd and last part of Owarimonogatari. Which is absolutely amazing! I can't wait for Final Season!!! And the last book, Zokuowarimonogatari.

Favorite character is whomever is narrating the book I'm reading at the time which is usually Koyomi but when I haven't seen one of them for a while and suddenly they're in the book or show... new or renewed favorite!

I never really am able to explain WHY I love the Monogatari series, but I just... do? It's hard to pick favorite characters but it is definitely between Senjougahara, Araragi Koyomi, and Araragi Karen. I think when I really got hooked on the series was the finale of Bakemonogatari, and the "Stars" scene with Araragi and Senjougahara

This became my favorite anime of all time as soon as I watched it. And I've been watching anime for like 28 years. Its like the anime equivalent of Pulp Fiction/Before Sunrise/Pan's Labyrinth for me. I went in with rather low expectations since I didn't trust the taste of the person who recommended it to me. I think like everybody, when I saw episode 12, I pretty much was in for life (and I became a huge supercell fan, and pretty much a fan of all the music in the entire anime). I sort of like the fast that the MC is not really the MC and I like that it jumps around to different characters all the while telling the story. Its very much the classic novel format. I liked it so much I made a youtube video about it: http://youtu.be/LA1VYmx6b7c

It's been several months now since I watched the series for the first time and it's all kind of blended itself into my head. But I do recall finding Nisemonogatari to be the most amusing season, and probably my favorite.

I actually was going to start to re-watch it all again chronologically (so start with Neko), and I knew that there was a Neon Alley channel on youtube that had it so I could watch it comfortably on my Roku...but it got taken down So I'll have to do it with fansubs at some point. I think that this second viewing is going to be nearly as awesome as the first.

The last novel hasn't come out yet? I thought the entire series was finished? I hope it comes out soon because I really want a full fledged season next year for one of my favorite shows.

Nope. The Last 'book' is not out yet and it is not yet known if it will be one volume or more. Supposed to be out this year.

Is this anime not that popular in the Western market? I'm assuming it's popular in Japan since it has multiple seasons.....
As someone who is fairly new to anime I've never had this show recommended to me by anyone, and I've never seen it on like a "Top 100 List" or whatever (yeah I check those, I'm a simple bitch but we all start somewhere right ). I just heard about it reading the comments section on some other show (I can't remember the show) here on Crunchyroll. The comment was referencing a toothbrush scene.

I'm on episode 5 of Bakemonogatari, and I think this show is cool as heck. The animation is really original and incredible, music is great, I like the wordy dialogue, and the plot is interesting enough. Senjougahara is kind of annoying me, but I find most tsunderes that way.

Anyways, I just wanted to bump this thread to hear more opinions on this show.

I think it's fairly popular in the Western market, although it's certainly more niche than like, say, Attack on Titan.

The series isn't something I'd recommend to many newcomers to anime, simply because it's very much embedded in otaku culture. But it IS on my top anime list (well, at least Bakemonogatari and Second Season are)! Because my list is objectively the best list (although it only has 19 shows on it...)

I will say, though, that I consider Nisemonogatari (the season after Bake) to be the weakest of the franchise, but it's worth getting through for some high points and because Monogatari Series: Second Season is a masterpiece.

Anyways, glad you're enjoying it! I think there's a lot to love, like, and dislike about the show, but overall the good outweighs the bad.

Yeah I wouldn't recommend this series to anyone unless they had a couple solid years of anime fandom under their belt. I tried watching it a couple years back and was way too confused, so I dropped the first episode of Bakemonogatari- and I was definitely no newcomer to anime at that point! But I was a bit of a newcomer to the shows that cater to the otaku crowd.

Later on though, I found myself just appreciating the hell out of it. Definitely one of my favorite series. I really can never get enough of Kaiki Deishu. Eat more meat!

Love this series. I actually saw this first in one of the japanese commercials first and I was intrigued so I checked it right away.

Anyway I guess my favorite parts are mostly Hachikuji parts. Her banter with Koyomi is easily one of the best in the whole series. Favorite exchange? The "courage" banter...
