I used to be overweight. I weighed 175, now I only way 145 so I am not overweight. But people used to give me a hard time about it. They made me feel guilty everytime I ate. Fat people have to eat too, if they become anorexic then your body thinks that you are starving. So the next time you eat, your body will store all the food as fat or rob fat and nutrience from your organs. Obesity is a problem, it's not right to make fun of fat people. Would you make fun of a person with cancer?

i was chubby in middle school, and i have nothing against fat people. but i don't think people should be fat. it is more fun to be in shape and it is eaiser to make friends.

I'm not overweight, I'm the opposite (and I could really use some weight, but eh). Still it pisses me off when the people that think everyone have to be a certain way (especially this merely somewhat important case). Would such people be more pleased to exist in the future if it's like Vonnegut's Galapagos?

Even in such a world, the human race still found a way to mock others. A million years into the future and we still laugh at someone who farts.

I thought people would laugh about the fart. Not the person.

"so and so is fat! youre such a dumb blond!" . dont they have better things to do than to make fun of others? god.

Well, if you take it that way, then aren't people just laughing at the fat and not the person? The connection I was trying to make was that the human race would find a way to single someone out.

No matter who you are, someone will find a way to ridicule you.

Many people I know, including myself, consider obesity to be a sign of poor self-control. That is not to say that we hate obese people, nor does it mean that every obese person has poor self-control (there are medical conditions out there) but I find that many obese persons I know are obese because they do not respect their body enough to exercise and eat properly. It's more of a problem with those obese than overweight (there is a difference) in my eyes. Gluttony is not something to be proud of (also note that gluttony is one of the seven deadly sins in Christian culture).

Also many of those who are obese that I know have poor hygiene because they do not use a strong enough soap or just clean themselves regular enough. Bacteria and yeast thrive in skin folds (bacteria + sweat = body odor).

^ and things can get lost in those folds too!

Had a patient who lost het cell phone and remote control in her folds... started getting a massive infection from it...
*one of the moments i decided that being an EMT wasn't for me.

I don't like the non-genetic obese people because they hate their bodies. They abuse their bodies. They put their bodies under unnecessary strain. There's so many diseases that come hand in hand with obesity .. they ultimately lead to death.

Fine, you are big, who cares right? YOU DO! Most people I meet that has a little weight problem expect to be treated differently. If they smell, you can't tell them because it's their weight and you're being mean. FUCK THAT! If you like and are happy with being obese then so am I just don't treat me or anyone else differently when they address issues with you that might or might not link back to your weight.

Also the arrogance towards people smaller than themselves! I'm sick of feeling like a horrible person because I'm not as big as some people.

Bottom line is if you want people to look at you differently stop expecting to be treated differently. My boyfriend has Pacific Islander roots and they don't expect to be treated differently, neither do his friends yet other people do and thats not a stereotype thats a fact.

Maybe its their attitude towards being obese that they need to change not everybody elses.

@redgarnet: It is difficult to maintain control if you think about it. The virtue opposite gluttony (temperance) can be just as bad when taken to the extreme (actually, you could say that about many of those virtues), and yes, it is still quite a problem here.

And jay, you don't really need people to treat you equally. Sure it'd be nice if they did, but you can't always expect so much.

Me and my friends joke around with each other everyday, some just happen to be obese. In fact at my school most obese kids talk about themselves like obese comedians do. Anyway they simply joke back, we all have some problems. On another note their is this one kid at our school who is severely obese, and because of this I never joked about him, then one day he start joking to me about a gap in my teeth [no longer here cause dental braces rock ] and kept on with it all day, anyway naturally I said some jokes back and we became friends.

What the shit? I'm telling people to treat us equally because we deserve it at least.

And so do other people. How about obese people who are arrogant, prejudiced and down right bullies to smaller people treat them with equallity?

This is what I'm talking about, you DESERVE it, everyone else has to earn respect from people. You are not any different from the rest of us, you're just a little bit bigger.
