Ahhhh, no wonder it looked familiar. My grandpa taught it to me when I was younger, but I only remembered Alpha, Bravo, Whiskey and X-Ray. I guess because they were easier to remember. No harm in re-learning them. ~

I've never needed to know it. As to whether you do need to know it probably depends on your job position more than anything else. I had one woman over the phone bring it up with 'F for Foxtrot?' and that was about it. My brain melted for a second because I had no idea what word she'd said since I didn't expect her to bring it up, but other than that I've never had to. I wouldn't have thought there's any harm in knowing it, though.
