Not sure where to post this topic but i guess general will do.

So we all know how long ''the big 3'' is compared to other anime. One piece, Naruto and bleach has been going for so many years (I believe the first chapters of those series where released around year 2000).

So my question is, do you think those mangaka had the complete storylines planned out from chapter 1? If not, how much of it?
10 years ago, did they already know their stories would still be going right now, or who the current villain would be?

Naruto, Bleach and One piece was just a example, i know there are longer mangas out there.

Personally, i think they might have had the end planned out from chapter 1, and the middle part to some extent, but far from everything.

Didn't notice before now that i fucked up on the title... -.-'

I think they had the basic idea. If you read the pilot you'll see it's much different from the actual manga itself.

It really depends on the series and writer, but generally the shorter ones have the first draft already finished from start to finish with the only thing left to do is dialogue and the technical work, while the longer ones only have a draft of the beginning and then they make it up as the series goes on.

From the way Kishi is going on and on with mega villain upping mega villain, either he's trolling the fanbase or he's making it up as we go along.

Or he's just going for plot > fights... Kaguya is explained after all, although it's not as epic as i thought the final conclusion would be.
Just because the fanbase fanboyed madara hard, doesn't mean Kishi can keep him there if it's not what he originally wanted to do with him.
I strongly believe the creator of Naruto is not making up shit on the spot

Meh. I much prefer the first half of Naruto. Now it is just...Sprawling overkill.

yep, the first half was way better and reading the manga is just a chore now. I still believe what's happening now was Kishi's original purpose though

Great topic! I haven't really looked into this much and I often wonder also.

BTW, I fixed the title, and also moved this to the Manga forum.

I cant find the Bleach Manga anywhere on the internet (that picks up directly where the anime ended) so i dont know about bleach. If you are up to date with Naruto it really seems like Kishi has a general idea of where he wants to go sometimes and other times it seems like he is just pulling something out of his ass to meet his weekly deadlines.

p.s. If anyone knows where I can read bleach starting from chapter 460 please hook me up thanks! ;)

I'm pretty sure that they write the ending of everything first. Or at least a general idea of how they want it to end. That's how a lot of authors write books so I figure it's the same.

i think what happens with long-running series is that the mangakas draw up a story with its ending in mind, and when it becomes super popular they have to add a bunch of arcs , milk it until it's dry, and even then pull the rag until it is torn, and then put the ending. Which is probably different than they originally set it out to be.
