Does anyone use Hulu Plus for anime?
Posted 6/28/14
I do since I prefer to watch my anime legally. Like you said, they have a huge selection of anime. I honestly haven't had any problems with ads. The longest I've had to deal with is 60 seconds. When the ads play, I just get up and go get me something to eat or drink.

Ads are a good time do something else for a moment. Sometimes if you're lucky, you can "watch", (i.e. do something else), a long ad at the start, then get the rest commercial free.

I use it for Funimation shows because I'm done with Funimation's crappy streaming on my Roku. Unfortunately, Hulu's Roku interface is awful and the commercials suck, but at least the shows play.

Forgive me if it seems I'm thread-jacking, but I'm wondering the same thing, but about Netflix. Knights of Sidonia is gonna play on Netflix, and I'm thinking I'll need to get a subscription for it to see it. Is Netflix good with anime and ads or is it much like Hulu has been described?

I used to bash hulu because there were ads on everything, but now I use it on xbox and it really isn't that bad (since I'm scrawny I've taken the time to do a couple reps during commercials hahah)

Correct me if I'm wrong, but having Hulu Plus doesn't take away the ads. Meaning that for watching anime, there is no advantage of Hulu Plus over just regular Hulu. As far as I know, there are no anime that are for Plus members only.

The entire Hulu service is based on ad support, both Hulu and Hulu Plus, so those ads aren't going anywhere.
Hulu Plus, the paid subscription version of Hulu, offers thousands of episodes and movies from pretty much any genre and time era. Newer shows like Once Upon A Time and Doctor Who to old classic shows like Green Acers and I Love Lucy. The difference with Hulu, which is free and only available on PC, has a very limited selection compared to Hulu Plus, which can be used on PC, various phones and tablets, internet connected devices like Roku, and even game systems like the Wii U, XBox 360, and Nintendo 3DS.
The other big advantage of Hulu Plus is that many series have entire seasons, or in some cases, the entire series available for viewing. For example, on Hulu, perhaps only the four most recent episodes of Once Upon A Time may be available, where as on Hulu Plus, all of seasons 1, 2, and 3 can be viewed.

To the thread starter: As someone who appears to have similar tastes to your own, yes, it's worth it. If nothing else, try it for a month or two. If you don't like it, cancel the service. There's tons of content for every age group. I believe I also recently saw they started adding episodes from the original Sailor Moon series. I think pretty much the only series that aren't present on Hulu Plus are Shaman King, Case Closed, Karin, and the Nanoha franchise. Lol.

I just use Piratebay for the stuff that isn't on Crunchyroll, i think it's a little silly to have a handful of subscription fees.

There are some shows (not sure about anime) that are only on Plus. However, the "plus" part is that the shows (with just a few exceptions) can be watched on other devices, such as Roku, AppleTV, phones, and tablets.

However the user interface make it pretty aggravating to watch on Roku (and the interface on AppleTV isn't much better--4 steps to get to one's queue!)

Anyway, I've tried Hulu Plus a couple of times, but always drop because I just don't end up watching enough to make it worth the monthly fee, especially when I still have ads, and an annoying experience using it on Roku and AppleTV.

I can't bring my self to pay to watch ads when I am already paying for bandwidth.

I use Hulu to watch any anime that CR doesn't stream - such as, most recently, Akuma no Riddle and selector infected WIXOSS, among others. I used to absolutely loathe having to sit through those ads, but as several other people on this thread have mentioned you get used to them and it gives you time to do other stuff, such as checking my messages on CR ^-^

Not Plus, but regular Hulu for anime, sure! It's great for Funimation titles that aren't available here. I've watched Heaven's Lost Property, Haganai, B Gata H Kei, D-Frag, and several others.
