Mr. silenceismygrave:

I know yor first post is centered on manga, but if you have interest in 80´s anime you can watch Mobile Suit Gundam and Gundam Z (Mecha wars), Urusei yatsura (humour), Kimagure orange road, (school romance) Hokuto no ken (action, martial arts, bloody)... from the 90´s evangelion (weird mecha series), Furi Kuri (Fooly Cooly in english, absurd humour), Ranma 1/2 (humour and martial arts). Cowboy bebop (sci-fi bounty hunters), Rurouni Kenshin (Samurai X in english, sworplay anime), Samurai Champloo (sworplay from 2004)... There is a lot to watch, from 80´s, 90´s, now... Seriously.

Nodame cantabile is a good romance with humour and classical music.

If have interest in horror stories Maybe you can try something "soft" as Another, or try weirder stories as the Higurashi no naku no koro ni series, known for short as Higurashi.

Don´t know what to reccomend, to tell you the truth...

But Toradora is the best romance I´ve seen, and I love them.

Ignatius, I have always wanted to get into some of the older animated series, I never knew where to start w/ Gundam. Though, I am familiar w/ Urusei Yatsura which basically founded the ecchi plot of unreliable bad male leads. Evangelion, Furi Furi, Rurouni Kenshin, Samurai Champloo, Cowboy Bebop and Higurashi + Another I have watched.

Ive been recommended Hokuto no Ken and Kimagure Orange Road and I planned to watch Orange Road before but never got to it. Ranma 1/2 I havent completed but I liked.

I do have a question though, since you seem to know about older anime. There was one I was enjoying before a vacation but lost the title of. I know this is going to sound very vague but I only remember a few things about the series.
1. The setting take place is Japan's revolutionary period after WW2.
2. It's a roughly middle class family of 4, Mom/Dad and 2 Sisters.
3. The younger sister is the main character.
4. It's a slice of life in the most literal since.
5. The only episode I remember is there father bringing home an exotic fruit from the west -a pineapple- and they all got excited to eat it and ended up hating it.

Here are some of my anime and manga recommendations:

Natsume's Book of Friends

Durarara!!

Baccano!

Now, can I expect differences in Natsume's Book of Friends than from the anime? I never completed the full animation. It had a slice of life feel to it but was supernatural and the only anime I've ever seen pull that off was Ano Hana and Dusk Maiden of Amnesia. And Dusk Maiden of Amnesia only worked b/c of the comedy/fan service.

I had the same problem trying to get into Mushishi.

Also thank you for liking how I organize my collection! I have very limited space in the barracks so I try keeping collectors stuff in a nice presentable manner while maximizing space. While regular stuff is organized by how many dvds are in the series and edition. Off to the left I have all my 2+ dvd sets. While in front I have a few premium editions. Kimi ni Todoke V1 Premium is behind it with the other two regular dvds at the top of that stack.

I dropped way to much on madoka stuff and SAO + Fate Zero which is why they are displayed in the front and madoka even has her own shelf area. I have another shelf in my closest but it would require a lot of reorganizing to use.

Hmmm, I know that the manga of Natsume has less filler. Its been a while since I watched the anime, so I can't compare and contrast them very well.

I also have small spaces where I can store my collection. And some LE stuff too. A lot of my manga and anime and the LEs is stored into cabinets, while a few manga is out on the shelf. The reason for that is that my shelf is near my bed and I live in place with lots of earthquakes. So when a moderate to severe earthquake strikes when I'm in bed, I don't have to worry about being buried alive.

Sooo, today I ordered all of Suisei no Gargantias Box Sets, for excited for when they get here. My orders that will soon be arriving to my collection include.

Toradoras Premium Edition
Suisei no Gargantia Blu Box Set (1-3) mind I didn't but the OVA but owell.
Psycho-Pass Premium Edition Complete First Season
Sankarea Limited Edition Complete Season (Hyb)
Puella Magi Madoka Magica Beginnings + Eternal LE

If anyone knows a vendor where I can find the original Madoka Magica series on LE it would be appreciated I can't seem to find anyone selling the LE's of the original series anymore.

You've got quite a few interesting things on the way. I myself am looking into to getting the Toradora premium edition. I didn't know there was a limited edition version of Sankarea, but I might look into that as I quite enjoyed the series.

Sankarea's LE released as the television series. So I don't believe it was upgraded from the original definition. I'll find out when it gets here. I believe it is still in stock but for most vendors it is OOP

Best thing in my opinion before you buy... Get a cheap book shelf or corrugated boxes for them. You would be very surprised on how fast your collection can explode over a year or so.

i've been collecting for almost 7 years and i started when i was 8 back in 4th grade and currently i'm 16 and own 700+ . my recomendation is going to be good will for manga . i have a lot of manga's that i have gotten from good will also just becuase you've been into anime for 7 years doesn;t mean you have to read manga's that you have already heard of . be open minded and try lots of different manga's that you haven't heard of also DON'T collect in order . that will kill you immediatly . i collect over 60 series and there is only a couple series which i had the luxury to collect in order . i've been into anime for 10-12 years and havn't been apart of the otaku community untill last year ( for 9-11 years i knew no one who liked anime ) so just be really openminded while collecting , get good deals and have fun !!! manga is an amazing thing and if you don't love to read manga then i would not recomend colleting it ( manga's should be bought to be read and loved , nothing moe nothing less )
