I'm pretty interested to see what Call To Cosplay is like, I hope it's available to watch on the Crunchyroll ps3 app.

Presumably they picked it up fairly cheaply. Also that 10% gets pretty hard done by in terms of the anime on CR that they *can* watch.

Um... SHONEN HOLLYWOOD -HOLLY STAGE FOR 49- is supposed to be available for Europe expect English speaking territories....? I'm from Finland and it's unavailable for me. So I guess the staff is bad at geography.

Based on some of the "ex-US / non-English" shows from last season, it is far more likely it is the licensor back in Japan that has strange ideas about what constitutes a "English speaking territory". Last year on one series that excluded either German or French speaking countries, they seemed to exclude countries that had even a single digit percentage of people that spoke the language.

As I understand it, when CR lists the territories, they are using the language from the contract, but you can bet the exact countries are spelled out in greater detail elsewhere regardless of that language.

For the record, based on the PV, here are ISO codes for the countries it is available to:
bh cy ir iq il jo kw lb om ps qa sa sy ye al ad at by be ba bg hr cz ee fr de gi gr va hu is it lv li lt lu mk mt md mc me nl pl pt ro ru sm rs sk si es ch tr ua dz km dj eg ly mr ma so sd tn eh

For those who don't know their country's 2 letter ISO code, you can check here:

Crunchyroll doesn't "pick" anime: They try to get everything they can, which means some aren't going to be what you would consider "winners".

The season literally hasn't begun yet (it starts tomorrow), and CR has plenty of announcements to go (the number of boxes on the lineup page will grow with time), so reserve judgement until the process is complete.

Because 10% can, including all the members for the German and French language sites that are only going to grow if they get anime to watch.

Remember its not a fixed license fee. Crunchyroll will make an offer that says what it is willing to pay for what rights, and you can bet your last $5 that they do not offer as much for "Non English Speaking Europe" as they offer for "The Americas, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and English Speaking Europe".

But if "The Americas, Australia, New Zealand, South Africa and English Speaking Europe" was exclusively licensed by someone else, that region can't be given to Crunchyroll.

This anime I'm been waiting for is ruined by limitation licensing for Europe and not for English speaking territory. What the hell man. We want Shonen Hollywood for English speaking countries. We Otakus are disappointed at CR for not putting on US. That mean FUNimation or Daisuki are going to steam Shonen Hollywood.

Its silly to be disappointed at CR when CR makes an offer for every show for every part of the world outside Japan.

Its the licensor who decided (for whatever reason) not to accept CR's offer for North America (and etc.).

Sometimes its the Japanese that are bad at geography.

Remember that the region section is COPY and PASTE from the contract. What look like vague terms are actually defined in some appendix somewhere. So if the contract DEFINES 'English Speaking Countries" as "UK, Ireland, the Netherlands, Sweden, Norway, Finland and Iceland", then that's just that.

The reason they do it that way is that the appendix is the same for everyone's contract, so if one contract says, "North American and English Speaking European Countries", and another contract says, "Europe, except English Speaking Countries", its guaranteed that the specific boundary is clearly laid out.

Now, its normally good news on Crunchyroll for smaller countries in Europe to be treated as "English speaking" if they don't get their own separate language area from the Japanese, because that means they get included in a lot of "English speaking European countries" when that used to only mean UK, Ireland, and South Africa (because South Africa in the DVD days was in Europe's region).

But with a license like this, its obviously bad news.
~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~~
But what makes it all very confusing for MEMBERS reading the announcement is that there's no way for us to tell, and to make it more confusing, its whatever the appendix says, so different companies can define "English speaking", "French speaking" "German speaking" differently.
So all we can do is ask in the Support forum if it seems funny, and they can check if its a mistake, or if its just a contract that is written in what seems an insane way.
Belgium "fell in the gaps" in Spring this year, because on one contract that left out "French speaking countries", it was from a company that considered them French speaking. But on another contract that left out "German speaking countries", it was from a company that considered them to be German speaking!
Treating Belgium as French speaking is not so crazy ~ Dutch is the number one language, but French is number two with quite a lot of speakers, and a lot of Japanese licensors don't have a separate Dutch language region.
But treating Belgium as German speaking is insane ~ its an official language of Belgium, but its less than 10% of the population that speaks German as their first language, so its should not be consider "the" language of Belgium for licensing purposes.
Even worse was at least one Japanese company treating the Netherlands as German speaking. Now, there is an recognized regional language in the Northeast of the Netherlands that is sometimes called "dialect of West Low German", but its not standard German at all. If you are going to count recognized regional languages, the Netherlands should be able to claim English whenever its useful, since that's also a regionally recognized language (ahem: for the Caribbean islands of Sint Eustatius and Saba).
Missing European countries: United Kingdom (uk), Ireland (ie), Norway (no), Sweden (se), Finland (fi), Denmark (dk)
I guess these are the English speaking territories. Crunchyroll fixed it for the Netherlands now but Scandinavia is still out of luck.
Funimation never announces it, but their licenses sometimes include Scandinavia and sometimes even the Netherlands. However, Funimation still only streams those series in the US and Canada.
I think that FUNimation leaves out territories its sublicense to because its web platform is still kind of a fledgling. Originally FUNimation was a dubbing company, and not a web company (compared to yours truly). So its no wonder that CR has superior web infrastructure. But since people have stopped buying dvd's for the most part, FUNimation has had to change its business model, which has resulted in their current state. And thus, they have no choice but to leave out territories, because their equipment just can't handle the traffic. (and they really don't have the capital to expand it)
It's getting pretty late in the day, Crunchy. Gimme more announcements.
(Watch Mr. Wizard explain how Crunchy doesn't do announcements on Tuesdays that are also the first of the month.)
Anyone know of any good VPN providers the countries TheAncientOne listed? Or I guess I can find a fan sub.
If I had to come up with a possible explanation, I would hesitantly suggest, "Too busy packing for AX?". But even I don't buy that one, especially since AX doesn't start until the 3rd.
The good news is the tidle wave of premieres coincides rather nicely with this weekend at AX. With two exceptions (Rail Wars and Futsuu no Joshikousei ga (Locodol) Yattemita.), nothing premieres prior to 7:30 AM PST on Saturday that CR might have need to announce.
Crunchyroll's industry panel isn't until 10:45 AM, however, so they'll need to announce some shows before then. Aside from the two mentioned above, the remaining candidates are Aldnoah.Zero (already confirmed by Aniplex as a CR simulcast, but not announced by CR), Sengoku Basara: Judge End (Funimation?) and Barakamon.
The panel time is great for the tidal wave (or perhaps "title wave") that rolls in on Sunday, with 10 titles premiering that day, two of which are already spoken for.
Interesting aside: I noted when counting these titles that FansubDB shows Daisuki confirmed for a simulcast of Akame ga Kill!
FYI, using a VPN to access CR is techncially a violation of the terms of service.
Also, if you chose to proceed, I hope you speak languages other than English, as with the "ex-US" titles of the past couple of seasons, apparently only Ping Pong was available with English subtitles in the countries it was available in.
Then kill Agame ga would be available only for North America because Latin America is not available
That's true, I don't know any of those languages. Well looks like I am pirating it then. The first few episodes anyway to see if I'd want to keep watching it.
Could you explain further what you mean? I have yet to find any further confirmation of a Daisuki simulcast of the series, and without that, I don't know how there could be any region information.
By chance do you reside in either the US or Canada? If so, there may be a legal source, as the absence of English speaking countries for CR's Shonen Hollywood license likely means it was licensed by Funimation, but not announced yet.
Even if you don't, AFAIK when viewing free at the Funimation website without signing up, they don't toss up a ToS agreement you have agree with, which means even if they also bar VPNs (which I expect they do), you would have technically never agreed to such terms, and certainly would not have read them.
