I see. Was your achilles sore before the tear happened or it just happened without any warning? Sorry for all the questions. It's just for a while here lately my achilles has been getting sore and staying sore after my daily run. The last time I ran it was so sore I couldn't really walk on it for a day. I've been off running for a month now hoping it will 'heal' up. I just don't want to tear it.

It wasn't sore, I slipped while accelerating out of a 90 degree cut. To deal with your soreness you should try some dynamic calf stretches such as calf raises off the edge of stairs or something with emphasis on the lowering the heel deeper than the toes to give it a good stretch.

I used to partake in Muay Thai and only got so far as ni-dan in iaido/tameshigiri and kendo. Now it's just competitive sporting clays and long distance marksmanship for me.

I run track competitively. I'm 16. I ran at states once, but then I tore my hip flexor. Now, I'm just trying to get back in shape. During the track season, I watch an episode or two at most a week.

Hip flexors resist many explosive movements especially jumping and people often forget to stretch them, I have even heard of some people gaining an extra inch or two of vertical reach by stretching them extensively before combines. If they aren't properly stretched it usually just gets sore but tearing is possible. Keep at it and you should bounce back quickly.

Thanks! Now I know better. I do dynamic stretching prior to running, though it is a bit difficult to stretch the hip flexor.

Yeah, its a pretty awkward stretch and sadly not all trainers teach it.

My mom is actually a physical therapist and she taught me that stretch! It's a shame that that stretch is often neglected. Except everyone judges me when I do it in the public, so I have to do it at home. One time, some lady at the park thought I was dead and started screaming when I was performing that stretch. Good times.

National level in school football. Stopped playing after graduation, picked up boxing after entering university but not too serious at the moment. Frequent spars at the maximum.

Nope, but supposedly it can give you that extra inch or two in jumping height for the vertical reach jump test.
