If there's a thread like this then please close this thread.

On the web it's a known fact that advertisement/adds is the biggest source of revenue for most websites, however we got add-ons for browsers such as add blocker that blocks adds from being displayed on websites... But what many don't know about add blocker(s) is that because you don't see the adds, the website provider/company doesn't earn any revenue from you when you visit the site.

Some companies blocks you from accessing their websites if you have add blocker enabled, where as other websites blow up adds on their entire site to fill the losses from everyone who uses add blocker. And there're a few problems whit blowing up adds everywhere on a site because it will take longer time to load the site, meaning that people who don't use addblocker will get punished for everyone who do use addblocker.

To tell the truth, I absolutely hate adds and thus I use add blocker on almost every website... If I'm gonna be honest then I would prefer a subscription over free whit adds, since according to my opinion adds make a website look bad and unprofessional.

So, what is your opinion about adds and subscriptions?

*EDIT
This thread isn't just about CR subscriptions, but the web in general!

like you said, the sites needs the ads there to make revenue, so whether they have to clutter their sites in ads for the money or just have one or two here and there, it's gotta be done.

i use adblocker too, although i pay for crunchyroll because of the other services it provides with the subscription, such as multi-platform viewing.

when you look at it though, i guess noone can really win. ads will be places, blocks will be used.

Hey,

Subscriptions of course. After all, you have an access to the full catalog in HD with all simulcasts. Besides of that, you'll also be able to watch your anime in your game console (like PS3).

If you have the courage to watch your anime with some interruptions during the show, that means you aren't an anime fan (in my opinion). It's just ugly as hell.

I also use adblock by the way, don't like being assaulted.

If we keep this strictly to CR and not talking about other sites subs vs ads...

I prefer a sub, I get multi-platform viewing as well as being able to see shows the moment they are on CR rather than a week after. If you don't pay for a sub, I think you have no right to complain of ads because that is what you are paying (or in this case unwilling to pay) for. As for adblocker... eh... yeah sure it's useful but when you think of the hundreds to thousands of viewers, not all of them are using adblocker, hell iirc adblocker is only a chrome thing? OF course I don't use the others like internet explorer or firefox so I am not sure really. So yeah CR might be losing some pocket change in the grand scheme of things of the people using adblocker, but I don't think its enough to worry about, especially given their sub count.

The point of this thread wasn't CR premium versus CR whit adds. It was the web in general. In other words it could be any site!

Also, Chofrizzy If CR is bad then why is it bad? I've been a subscriber for over a year and I've never regretted my money going to them. Plus my €$ goes strait into the anime industry.

I use Ad Block Plus and No Script on Firefox, the combination seems to a good job at blocking ads and keeping the site from concealing content. I paid for CR until a few days ago.

Ad networks are pretty much the number one vector for malware these days. Therefore, blocking of ads is an essential component in online security. Last time I used CR without a premium membership it barely worked due to the multiple layers of ad blocking I've got going. :p

Adds always suck . And with the IP gaining more and more power and developing these new ways to monitor your browsing. It is becoming more invasive by the minute. You look something up once and seconds of days later you're getting adds for similar content shoved down your throat... by force. The telescreens are watching your every click kids...

Honestly, I don't really mind ads too much (though I do subscribe to CR). I feel the ads are my way of paying for using a site, since I can't afford to subscribe to everything. I only ever mind them if they say they'll only give you so many ads, and then give you more than that (seriously, how does mtv.com do that? Why can't they just not say the amount of ads?). Plus, the ads on sites I go to I trust won't hurt me.

In general, I prefer ads. I haven't always had the disposable income to keep up with the latest and greatest. However, ads are something we all deal with on a regular basis (tv, radio, road signs, etc.) and can choose to ignore when we encounter them. This allows me to continue to enjoy amazing content and services while keeping the provider going, so they can continue as well.

Subscriptions often come with many benefits that make them appealing, but when the only benefit is something like "no ads" when we have ways to keep our computers mostly free from invasion...it really isn't worth it. After all, why pay for something when I can minimize any/all risk and gain virtually nothing?

However, I am all for subscriptions when there are benefits for them that can't be reached through any other method and which are a fair value. For example, I'm not going to pay $50/month for a music site to get no ads and the ability to listen for longer than 10 songs without it shutting down until I pay. There are other places I can go that are less hassle and provide a similar service.

I can't really give a blanket ads or subscription answer because there are way to many variables. What is the benefit of the subscription? What does it cost? Can I get the same service or something almost the same for less at a different site? How often do I have to pay for the subscription? Basically, is the subscription worth the cost for what I will gain?
