As usual, many shows are unavailable in the UK. I really have to wonder what I pay CrunchyRoll for, as a news web site and a bunch of anime cover art images with "SORRY, DUE TO US BEING CHEAPSKATES WE DIDN'T PAY FOR THE UK RIGHTS TO THIS" written underneath them doesn't really cut it.

It's a really poor effort.

I agree, it isn't fair no matter what country you're in.
I just feel like there should be more of an effort made to get titles in for everyone, not just
a few select viewing areas.

Don't even put it in the title of the news story if we aren't even going to get it in the US. / :

That's rather America-centric of you. Other countries do use CR, and it isn't as if this forum is only visible within the US.

People in other countries have had to put up with this disappointment for years (i.e., "We've got this title, but sorry, not for you). Now that the shoe is on the other foot, I can imagine some of them are laughing their asses off at how some people in the US complain about it.

It has nothing to do with being "America-centric" I just think the title
makes you get your hopes up about a new title only to find out that it's not even available in US where
the majority of Crunchyroll users are from.

But sure, go ahead and blow things out of proportion because we never get enough of that on the internet.

Funny that I'm the one blowing things out of proportion, but you're the one getting upset over a title.

Yes, it is unfair and I'm personally upset that we cannot get every single title for all of our users worldwide. However, given the nature of licensing, this is simply not possible sometimes, and oftentimes, the decision is not up to us.

However, please do know that it is not due to lack of effort or awareness that we are unable to acquire rights for certain areas, as we certainly go in with the intention to license and get as many territories as we are able to.

If funimation wants to be a competitor then they need to get their shit together. I will not pay a subscription and be forced to sit at my PC to watch it, or go through the hassle of mirroring just to see it on my TV. Not to mention paying a double sub since they don't simulcast everything. Be as it will, at this point all they are doing is harming themselves by forcing people to get torrents or use the free streaming sites.

Quick note: http://www.funimation.com/videos/simulcasts_shows# 8 simulcasts thats totally worth $55 a year! Either get more shows and stop sniping what you think is popular, or give people a super cheap simulcast only option.

I'll say it one more time, sharing a license with CR is more money than you get from the people who pirate.

But its not like someone from funimation is browsing this thread and taking any notes.

If you have a Roku or Xbox 360, you don't have to watch on your PC or mirror from you phone or tablet. Their site also has an HTML5 video player available, unlike CR, so if your HDTV has a recent web browser, give it a try.
...

Note that their HTML5 video player also means that the iPhone works fine for Funimation. Just use the web pages and play the videos for full screen video. Works great!

To be honest, I wish Crunchyroll did this, had HTML video in the web pages. While the Crunchyroll app isn't bad, it is annoying that I have to do some things in the web page and other things in the app and going to a video page doesn't open the app, it just says I need Flash.

Funimation has more than 8 simulcasts per year. Where did you get that number? They seem to be getting 30-40 simulcasts per year now.

I doubt that complaining to Funimation about asking for your money is going to work. They are a business after all and they don't really care if you subscribe to Crunchyroll already. I subscribe to Crunchyroll, Funimation and Netflix and while it would be nice to just pay for one of them, I understand that competition exists for a reason here.

They aren't forcing anyone to go to fansubs. If you choose to go to fansubs, that is your choice not to spend $8/month at Funimation or to wait a week and watch a low quality stream with ads. No one can ever force you to do anything, but you can make excuses for yourself of course to help and convince yourself that what you are doing is right. With the current low/0 level of copyright enforcement on viewing fansubs it seems quite safe to do so.

I'm not perfect. In fact I don't need subs at all. I just pay for these streaming services to do it right. But when they have delaycasts, I'll watch live streams or Japanese nosub streaming. Delaycasts are just... too much for me now, too tempting for me to go and get it earlier. I always try to remember to come and give it the proper legal views as well to encourage them to do the home video releases here and give the show its views but sometimes I forget... My choices here.

All this talk of Barakamon and yet... I keep getting a 404 page from all the links and
a search for the title comes up blank as well.

So right now it seems having the licence doesn't mean you get
access.....

Oh and as someone who knows the frustration of missing out on your fav title
and having to get a 2nd sub to see what you want, has anyone tried
complaining either:
a) to Funi about expanding their activities to Latin America (they have the rights anyway)
or
b) to the companies that give titles to Funi thereby (unknowingly?) cutting off Latin America?

I think a massive fan outcry might get some wheels rolling. After all, Latin America
is a big potential market. No one wants to be missing out on that kind of money right?

cmon akame! i really want it on crunchy roll XD
That could very well happen since Sentai announced that they have Akame ga Kill at their Anime Expo panel.

And with no NA streaming for Barakamon, I suppose there's a chance that FUNi has it? This was a show I was looking forward to, so I'm hoping it streams somewhere.

Do we have a deal with Sentai or something why you think that? None the less im just waiting on confirmation of Akame ga kill. It's my number one summer anime i want to watch.

If CR has to increase the price of the anime only service by $5 to get these shows, i'd gladly pay.

If you mean $5 per month more instead of $5 per year more, I'm not certain many people would be willing to pay that for so few additional shows.

I know I wouldn't, but I paid less than that for a 1 year sub to Funimation last Cyber Monday. I also have a Roku and an interest in their catalog. Still, I expect for a few more titles (only some of which most people would be interested in), many that don't fit my profile would balk at paying $5 more per month.

If you meant $5 more per year, I doubt that would turn the tide. Funimation has one advantage over CR: They also license for home video (which return more revenue than streaming licenses). Licensing for home video out of the gate can effectively guarantee them a title. Even dangling the bait of "We'll license it for home video if it performs to a certain level", could swing the balance if CR's bid isn't significantly higher. CR mitigated this somewhat by working with Sentai, but it isn't a perfect solution.

Do they have open forums, I'll go check that out and give some feedback.

You have to at least sign up for a free account to post to them, but you don't have to be a subscriber.

$5 a year my good man, even i'm not desperate enough to nearly double the current sub rate.

Also a huge LOL at the site crashing cause of SOA, what are you spending your money on?

Totally excited for Yamihibai, loved the first season and was hoping for more!
Though why isn't the US getting Barakamon? I see people saying it's Funimation and if that's the case, so help me God ...

Hmm, I think six more boxes just popped up on Crunchy's lineup page, in the US anyway. Even if we never get 'em all, we certainly get plenty.
