Hmm, I think six more boxes just popped up on Crunchy's lineup page, in the US anyway.

I'm pretty sure the TBD boxes pop up for all countries.
Only when something is added to the lineup page that isn't available in your territory that it disappears.

Which means, it's possible some of those boxes are for series that aren't available to the US.

Darn.

I still figure at least two thirds of the empty boxes will be for me though. Let's go, Crunchy!

Is barakamon getting late or something? Or some server issues?

Wow there's one not available in the USA?

There are two thus far this season. Shonen Hollywood is the other.

There were several last season, so don't be surprised if there are more.

I really have to wonder what I pay CrunchyRoll for, as a news web site and a bunch of anime cover art images with "SORRY, DUE TO US BEING CHEAPSKATES WE DIDN'T PAY FOR THE UK RIGHTS TO THIS" written underneath them doesn't really cut it.

If the series that the licensors give to Crunchyroll with UK rights aren't enough for you to justify paying for a Crunchy, just don't pay for a Crunchyroll subscription.

Its entirely unnecessary to tell lies to yourself to make yourself angry based on some fiction short story, in order to work yourself up to not paying. Skip the fiction writing, and just don't pay if its not enough.

It obviously wasn't Crunchyroll's offer for the UK rights that is the problem, when we are looking at some series where Crunchyroll's offer for Eastern European rights was "enough".

So since we have strong evidence that it wasn't the size of the offer, it must be the fact that some other company ended up with the UK rights, or else the licensor did not have UK rights in the first place (eg, Toei of America versus Toei of Europe).

Don't even put it in the title of the news story if we aren't even going to get it in the US. / :

By best guess based on available traffic statistics, half of Crunchyroll's membership live outside the US, so you could just as well say don't put the name in the title if its ONLY available in the US.

If you take it to its logical conclusion where they don't put it in the title if its blocked out in some part of the world (outside of Japan), the only series names that would ever get put into the title are a few shorts available worldwide outside Japan.

At least if Crunchyroll has it for more of the world, that means they can get more subscribers in more parts of the world, and that means its easier for Crunchyroll to get licenses of all kinds ... including to the US.

Starting to reconsider my premium membership... so many good titles are missing this season.

How do you figure? Announcement season is only getting started, there's no way to tell yet what is missing and what isn't.

And don't go by counting [?] boxes in the lineup, they only add those when all the i's are dotted and all the t's crossed and its ready to be added to the announcement calendar. Often a majority of boxes that get filled were not even [?] boxes halfway through the first week of the announcements.

Also, CR was reported to have said at their AX panel, "We're going to be at 50 simulcasts this season". I assume that is 50 total, since there I count only 47 titles this season, and that is including 1 episode specials and titles that Funimation has licensed. As they have 20 continuing simulcasts, that means around 30 new (whereas currently only 23 boxes are listed as of this morning's update).

Marketers often take a kitchen sink approach to counts like that, so I would expect that to be a count of titles including both continuing and news simulcasts, both anime and drama simulcasts, and both regular and short episode simulcasts.

But they normally only have a handful of any of the special cases, so still seems likely to be likely to be 40+ ongoing anime simulcasts with regular 20+ min. episodes.

No, its capitalism. The people in Japan are making the anime in hopes of earning an income, and after negotiating with several bidders for overseas streaming rights, they took the offer that was most attractive to them.

It doesn't premiere for another 6 days; plenty of time to announce it.

Funny that they'd waste money on the english subs when not streaming to english territories.

English is rather widely spoken and read in the world.

There's a big difference between "countries where English is an official language" and "countries where a majority of Crunchyroll members prefer their subtitles in English".

In a lot of countries, English is the most common middle school and high school "foreign language". And it tends to be easier to read in a foreign language than to write in it or speak it, so there are more people in those countries who can make out English subtitles than who could actually carry on a conversation in English.

And that isn't just theory, it goes along with feedback from Crunchyroll members in those countries.

For instance, the streams they did last season to the Middle East of series that only had French subtitles caused a lot of complaints that the subtitles were not in English. For much of the Middle East, English is the most common second language and much more common than French or German.

With rights in the Middle East and North Africa, plus Eastern Europe, it makes a lot of sense to subtitle in French, German and English.

Wow, it's true! That's great news, since I planned to watch it, and having English is always better.

It is unusual nonetheless, since it's the first title not available in any English-speaking countries that has English subs. Shounen Hollywood still only has the usual Spanish, French and German.
