While browsing the Anime part of the forums, I accidentally clicked "New Topic" next to the search button and it took me to the form to start a new topic. There was a warning across the top of the screen that I need more points to start a topic but; I could pick from all the different areas of the forum which I am able to view, fill in the title, description, the whole nine yards. I even have a live version of the "Post New Topic" button. Are the points no longer needed to start a topic or is this just a trap to catch folks that do not read the rules and break them? I can understand if the requirement for starting a thread has changed, but then what is needed to actually start a thread and not get in trouble for it?

The 500 cr point rule isn't a rule that mods enforce, it is one enforced by the site itself. That warning is there telling you that you won't be able to make a new forum topic outside of the help forums at all even if it looks like you can. If you were to push the post button, it wouldn't do anything but redirect you back to the same page with the same warning on top. So it isn't about getting in trouble or not, you just can't make a thread with < 500 cr points.

Thanks for the info. That seems a bit backwards, but then again much of the internet doesn't make sense.
