To be honest,I've seen so many reviewers say how mediocre/bad Sword Art Online is,I never bothered watching it even though I liked the premise.Fortunately, there's always Log Horizon, right?

Chrome Shelled Regios for me. I have no clue how popular it is, but I did not like it at all.

Pupa's anime adaptation was terrible, which is a shame considering I actually enjoyed the manga.

I can't really say I was disappointed by SAO, as I never was hyped up for it, but I never finished it and from what I've seen, it is not deserving of the acclaim and success it has had, not by a long shot. It is a solid anime and I'd like to finish watching it some time, but I don't expect to like it much more after watching the whole season compared to watching what I have, which is about 1/3 of the season.

An anime I was disappointed in is Mai Otome. Mai Hime is a very good anime. I really like it. So I checked out Mai Otome without hesitation. I thought it might be some sort of continuation. It has many characters from Mai Hime, most with altered names, but it seems like it is them in an alternate world, that seems to have nothing to do with Earth and the anime seems to have nothing to do with Mai Hime. The stories don't connect. To make things really disappointing, Mai Hime is all around a pretty good anime, while Mai Otome is all around mediocre or poor. In addition to this, Mai Otome seems like a halfhearted effort, it just fails to impress, and is more concerned with delivering fanservice and panty shots of teen girls rather than try to be a good anime and a fitting sequel/pseudo-sequel to Mai Hime.

Melody of Oblivion.

The last 5 or 6 episodes started to do that thing when the character makes a special move, and they show this weird sequence of actions. It was out of place, and made no sense. If I remember correctly, it was a motorcycle revving it's engine. It made no sense, because the first 19 or 20 episodes didn't do that, and because he didn't use the motorcycle in his special move. Not only that, but the way the last 5 or 6 episodes wrapped up the story left me with a very bad taste in my mouth. It's not that I didn't like the ending (although I didn't like the ending), but rather the way the ending of the story was told. It was rushed and sloppy, as if they had run out of money to do a proper job.

The first 20 episodes were masterpiece quality. The last 6 were crap. I was left horribly disappointed.

Sword Art Online. I found it on my own, but I really wish I hadn't seen the second half. The end of episode 14 is a perfect and adorable enough ending as it is- the best thing about the second half is the pretty animation. I stopped watching Kill la Kill after about 16-17 episodes; once the mother character came on the whole thing came tumbling down for me and I got tired of the endless fighting, too. I tend to watch anime on my own terms so that I don't get overhyped; it ruined Despicable Me and How to Train Your Dragon for me, which is REALLY depressing. While some endings have left me thinking, "....okay," I can usually deal with it.

Probably C3-bu. Despite the cheap animation it had a unique premise, a great soundtrack and so much potential for simple fun. The lack of material worried me a bit but from the first few episodes I was really excited.

But apparently Gainax decided they didn't really care about the source material. So instead of doing a bit of research about airsoft and continuing from where the source material left off in a way that was at least somewhat faithful to they decided to shove in a bunch of pointless angst and forced drama replacing the simple genuine fun with unintentional stupid fun.

Tamako Market comes close too. I was expecting something about the same quality as K-ON but instead I got obnoxious posh talking birds, brown loli butts, retarded subplots and sappy romance. Really hoping that the movie isn't as bad as the series

Gonna get a lot of hate/love for this but my most disapointing anime was Sword art Online. A lot of my real life friends keep telling me to watch it cause of how good it was and once I got into it, I was mind blown by how much I didn't like it. The pacing was terrible, skipping months at a time, the fights were too short and spaced too far apart to be a noteworthy action series, the characters weren't fleshed out or developed enough to be a good character study, the poor pacing and shallow character writing keep it from being a standout romance, and the fight animation was standard at best. I understand why a lot of people like it and I can respect their opinion but for me, I thought it was just a great premise with terrible execution.

Here's hoping season 2 fairs a lot better for me.

I second this

Samurai Flamenco. The first 6 or 7 episodes were amazing. Then it was a huge genre flip and I had to end up bailing out on the anime because I knew it was doomed. Some others where School Days, (but only the first time I watched it, not the other times)

To the other posters, I wish you guys wouldn't confuse overhyped with general disappointment because of a show's actual qualities. I mean I understand it becomes a let down and you view it differently, but that's not the show's fault, it's because other people gave you false hope. For example. Attack on Titan. I agree that I thought it was overhyped. It's realistically a solid 6/10 anime. Still good, but I've watched anime far better.

(***THIS SPOILER ACTUALLY CONTAINS LEGITIMATE SOA SPOILERS!***)
Disappointment because of the anime's fault:
