The recent update for the Cruncyroll app has really screwed over Kindle users! IT FLAT OUT DOESN'T WORK!!! Click on the anime bar, it doesn't load and takes you back to the main menu! Try to load a video from the new history feature and the app shuts down! And I'm not the only one! Recent Amazon reviews are filled with people that have the exact same problem! E-mailed Crunchyroll help and all I get back from them is an e-mail saying I should hear back from them with in two business days! And all this happening close to the premier of Sailor Moon Crystal!

So is there anyone - ANYONE - out there with a Kindle Fire who has figured out how to fix this?

Hi, I've just noticed the same thing - any idea when this will be fixed? I've also emailed CR requesting a fix.
Thanks!

I have a kindle Fire HD and this workaround (not an actual fix) works for me, but i can't guarantee this will work on a first model fire (without the "HD" name), or the newer HDX model, because I don't have either of those to try it on.

If you know how to sideload apps that are not from the Amazon appstore, then you can install three apk files (or possibly four if you don't already have ES File Explorer (all of them in order).

With sideloading, you do not have to root your kindle (rooting would void your warranty). Sideloading is something you are allowed to do, if you accept the risks of installing non-amazon supplied software. If you are non-technical, or the thought of doing something outside of the amazon appstore makes you uncomfortable, then don't do this. Stop reading now. I am trying to be helpful, but I won't accept responsibility if you somehow do something incorrectly.

If you have never done any sideloading, then you need to activate the setting to allow installation of externally-supplied apps first. On an HD, it is under quick settings (swipe down from the very top margin) then "More" to get to the Settings screen, then "Device", and turn "Allow Installation" to On.

Next, install ES File Explorer from the Amazon App Store if you do not already have it. So far in this process, this is still an Amazon-approved app (and it is free).

Then these three are also all free apps, no money is involved, but you can't get them from Amazon, and you can't get them from Google Play either, because Google, and or Amazon, or even both, just don't want to play nice together with Amazon Kindle owners. It stinks, but such is life, and is part of the choice we made when buying a Kindle (even if we didn't know that beforehand).

Each of these three pages has a "download" link that when pressed, should allow you to choose "ES Downloader" to manage the APK file. You can choose to open the file right away (install), or just to open the folder the file went in, and then have to tap the file to start the install.

Make very sure you are selecting the correct download button and not something that is part of an advert for something else...

www.1mobile.com/dolphin-browser-for-android-79865.html (Dolphin browser)

www.1mobile.com/dolphin-jetpack-606056.html (Dolphin Jetpack)

dolphin.com/lab/en (at the top right there is a Flash Player download button for an install to work with the Dolphin browser)

Once you have side-loaded all three apps, then you can use the Dolphin browser to go to the CR website and use it just like on a PC. The shows all play and you can even choose your resolution, so you can even get higher definition than the app (currently) supplies.

However, because it is now a browser instead of a dedicated app, the buttons are small even on my 8.9" model, and so you may benefit from using a stylus instead of your finger, especially if you have the smaller 7" model.

Also, if your Kindle has a 3G/4G plan, I recommend making sure to use your home network instead, unless you have an unlimited data plan. Higher resolutions consume a lot more bandwidth than the mere 360p the app supplies.

From the looks of it, the Crunchyroll app has been pulled from the Amazon Marketplace, so I'm gonna wager they're aware of this problem.

I have a Kindle Fire TV, and I've sideloaded the CR app on it when the Fire TV was first released. Because it's sideloaded, it won't auto-update, and has been working fine. The latest version is 0.9.6, which is probably the troublesome version. If you are comfortable with the sideload instructions posted above, you can download the 0.9.3 version here, which is working fine for me:

http://crunchyroll.en.uptodown.com/android/download/56201

Beware that this is an auto-download link; as soon as you open it, it'll download the APK, and then you need to follow the above instructions to sideload it.

I've also got a Kindle Fire HDX, but I don't know if this auto-updated, since it was downloaded from the Amazon Marketplace. I'll check later when I get home, if any one hints at any interest.

(Not that I'm against Dolphin browser. I've also sideloaded Dolphin, but more so I could access The Anime Network rather than CR. It's a bit cumbersome, but I've used the Second Screen features, which makes everything kinda nice)

I'm having these issues on my Kindle Fire. Just started the crunchyroll trial this past week. Downloaded the crunchyroll app on my Fire on Friday and it hasn't worked at all. The app on my iphone 5 works just fine so this is definitely isolated to kindle. Tried a bunch of different things but found no solutions.

I've finally heard back from CR on this issue and all they said was, "we don't offer support for Kindle Fire". So, does this mean the app is no longer available for this device and never will be, or just that CR don't know what the problem is? The app has been removed from the Amazon store so clearly they're aware of the issue, but there's no official statement to why it's been removed or the steps they're taking to rectify the problem. CR is one of the cheaper and most value for money anime streaming services around, but how they're treating customers who view using a Kindle Fire HD is appalling.

How can I escalate this, please?

Good news, I've today had confirmation from CR that they're working on a fix, but don't know when it'll be ready. Progress, if nothing else!

Great. I was disappointed when the app disappeared from the Amazon store.

Well, not much use to the current issues, but I have an HDX (the third gen model), and the 0.9.6 version is working fine on it. Apparently it got auto-updated before they pulled the app. Anyways, seems to be the first and second gens that have the problem, so I'm gonna wager that CR just built their app with the wrong dependencies.

Ah, maybe that's what they did. I've a Kindle Fire HD (2012 version) which was working well up until I went to update the app due to new shows such as season 2 of SAO & Free not being able to play quite a few days after their reported release date here in the UK. Rather stupidly I un-installed & tried to reinstall, which is when i noticed the issue.

I neglected to ask CR which version they'd be creating a fix for, but here's hoping it's across the board.

I really hope they get this fixed soon. I'm a stay-at-home-mom and anime is my guilty pleasure. It's how I unwind at night once the house is quiet.

I can appreciate that! I mainly watch via my Kindle Fire HD as it's easier, but the laptop will have to do - first world problems!!
